I know at least one leading Tokyo cosmetics and pharma company which runs 2K on all their machines - that's an example - I do not know if they have proprietary software but apparently everything works well enough and they're happy - they don't see a need to upgrade. In fact every other company I have friends or relatives working at, uses XP or 2K. Some use proprietary software but others don't. They're happy with XP/2K as is. These are multinational companies - one is French based and is a leading ISO certification company across the globe.
Quite so. Most people don't understand that businesses don't buy operating systems unless they are in the IT business. They buy solutions.
Further, even when is no apparent reason for waiting, if you have 100+ desktops spread all over the place, you don't want to risk the business on a new OS, no matter what OS it is.
Before upgrading an enterprise company will go through many levels of QA to ensure that all its systems operate without compromise before starting a roll-out. This type of testing can take years to complete as it will not be at the top of the agenda.
