Microsoft logo over the years

Holy crap they should have stuck with the early 80's one, totally awesome!

The Rubik's cube in the logo says to me, "this company has scrambled itself - who will unravel the complexities and bring it back together?".

Alternatively, the 2D Rubik is like - OK, keep it really simple

The 1987 Logo is the only one I know and like, but their latest logo looks like
it was made in MS Paint!

Holy f***, hahaha, that 80's Kiss type thing they had going there rocks.
Personally though I think the '87 (leaning “Pac-Man”) one looks the most timeless of the bunch.
The new one is a bit awkward looking. The font with the joined f and t looks weird, and that huge space between the graphic and text looks, I dunno, pointless.

Don't care though. I'm already saving up for my i5 surface :P

You will find that this new logo is actually more complex than its previous logos. All they were were just fonts basically.

The simplicity philosophy is what made its products affordable (relative to Apple's) and a much bigger success than Apple before the smartphone. Now MS is carrying the same philosophy into the new era. 26 Oct will be the dawn of that era.

As a matter of fact, Microsoft's biggest marketing strategy lies in its very simple logo. OEMs are free to produce phones in its colors and Nokia will show you how this will work on Wednesday.

I think that "leaning Pac-Man" was actually a hidden hyphen in memory of Microsoft's original hyphenated name Micro-Soft in 1975.

From Wiki:
They named their partnership "Micro-Soft" and had their first office located in Albuquerque. Within a year, the hyphen was dropped, and on November 26, 1976, the trade name "Microsoft" was registered with the Office of the Secretary of the State of New Mexico.

The font on the new logo is pretty much the exact same one that Apple uses for its products like "Macbook Pro" but straightened slightly and the actual logo is the Chrome logo unraveled and put into squares. Exact same colours and everything.

I understand why they changed it to what it is sort of, but they could have been much more creative.

Gives new meaning to the term 'aspirational brand'. :)

you mean the same colours that they have had since like windows 3.1, which predates chrome like what, 17 or something years?
