Hi,

I am having this really weird problem with my Microsoft Office Professional 2016 Installation. I have tried disabling non Microsoft services, I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling and I get the same error. I cannot open my Microsoft office applications - I get the 0xc000142 error each time I try opening an office application. I am running on Windows 10 Pro.

What else can I try?

Try running "sfc /scannow" from an elevated command prompt. Also download and run Adwcleaner and malwarebytes - I saw some people on the net reported this error was a result of malware.

I did the scan now and this is what it tells me:

I also ran a system scan with Malwarebytes and it tells me no malware was found... it did find suspicious files... these files were DLL's for InfoSlips (my payslip viewer).

It is probably not playing nicely with something else that you have installed on your machine...

Any other versions of office?

I have Visio 2010 installed on my machine... Hmm, and I haven't tried uninstalling that, all this time :( Let me try uninstall Visio 2010 and see what happens.

Run -

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Then -

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Then -

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Run -

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Then -

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Then -

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

I ran the four commands. The first 3 executed with no issues, the last command returned an error:

I am not sure what happened, but I am glad I can use office now. I removed office 2016... I had the 64-bit version installed. After removing office 2016, I downloaded CCleaner and ran it... cleared like 3GB of space... I also ran the registry cleaner in CCleaner. After that, I decided I would install Office365, but the 32-bit version. Entered my credentials, and now office is working :)
