Surface 2 tablet unveiled

Microsoft unveiled a new generation of Surface tablet computers Monday in a crucial bid to regain lost ground in the hottest sector of consumer computers from rivals including Apple, Google and Samsung.

so.... are they gonna be shipping these to ZA?
moan moan moan about lost ground.... if you don't make it available for sale, people can't buy it.

Not that anyone really cares to get the ARM version, but isn't it $449 for the 32GB Surface 2?

+1 let's hope this does better at the reviews too.

Exactly, its hilarious.

Surface pro is great, apart from fixed angled stand, and flexy keyboard. I'd get #2 if its available, and battery sounds promising.

As long as the ARM version does not run ALL windows programs it will be dead in the water.
As to the Pro version, I'd rather buy an ultrabook for that price.

The Surface 2, which has the less powerful Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, starts at 499 dollars. The Google Nexus, with similar features is 199 dollars. Can anyone else see the problem here ?

Aren't you comparing a 10" tablet with a 7" tablet ?

The Nexus 10 is not USD199, it costs a lot more.

Problem with the 32 Gig RT model, is that the OS takes about 17 of that.

Why dont they just call it a 16 gig and get it over and done with :D

I love how they are already planning a next model when the original was so much of a flop they had to hide the sales figures.

So Windows RT lives on... because that was such a hit...
The problem with RT is that it cannot run standard Windows programs. What I can't understand is why they can't produce a Windows emulator. If it can be done for Linux and IOS then it must possible to do it for Win RT.

So my Surface 2 Pro 256GB with Type Cover and Docking Station arrived this week.

Haven't had much chance to set up, fiddle and play yet. Hopefully this weekend.

First impressions:

- Beautifully made. Exceptional build quality.

- Wow, this thing boots fast! From cold start to lock screen in under 5 seconds.

- Docking Station is marvellously nifty. Place in situ and snap the sliding sides into the left and right ports.

- The Type Cover keyboard is eminently usable. However, the touch pad buttons take some getting used to.

Will set up with O365 Enterprise and various apps this weekend.

Later I need to work out how this machine will drive my 5 displays, or at least four of them. DP can do three, but might have to use USB3 to drive the 4th display.
