That's a super long time tbh, I'm under 5s and 3s of that is the crappy BIOS. On my old HDD it used to be around 10-15s.

How many start-up applications do you have? Aslo how many external devices do you have connected? Your system sounds bare-bones.

I have 6 external drives (adds time to BIOS start-up) an 11 applications that start.

Sub 20s is pretty damn quick.

You keep missing the point it's 20s on SSD. Win7 is 30s on HDD. We had these same discussions with Win8 and nothing came of it except Windows is slower each generation despite hardware being faster.

The short version of this conclusion is that a properly set up Windows machine equipped with semi-modern hardware should be capable of running Windows 7 or above more than adequately. The same hardware that currently runs Windows 7 competently can be upgraded to Windows 10 with no issues whatsoever on the performance front.

Connected drives shouldn't add too much, most of the time things like a GPU with more memory increases boot time a lot. When I upped the RAM and swapped with an 6GB memory GPU in one of my PC, it went from like 2 to 10 seconds for bios boot. Need to enable fast boot to skip that.

In terms of apps starting up, yeah, if anything delays I get annoyed, anything I need gets a delayed service start so the machine is already usable if needs to be used. Helps having a PCIe SSD as well.

And Swa, W10 will always have faster boot with the way it shuts down, you cannot ever say W7 is faster in boot. You could maybe argue e.g. App or driver compatability, but that's not really true since W7 and W10 have the same compatibility for older stuff. Driver you can argue if you're using signed OEM stuff.

They do unfortunately, as they are all mechanical devices.

The BIOS waits for them to start up before recognising them... can take 5+ seconds or so for a drive to start up and register with the BIOS.

Have you removed those drives from possible boot? Should stop it scanning/checking for boot partitions on them.

Yeah, removing the devices makes booting almost instant, but I need them for work - so the 10+ seconds or so it adds doesn't change my outlook on life.

My PC stays on for months non stop. I just sleep it. Properly shut it down once a term or to do the windblows updates.

No, stop the BIOS from scanning them for boot, not disconnect.

Yet it is. Raw boot and not programs I choose to add. Win10 has a lot of crapware. Skype, what's up with that? Win10 isn't usable right after boot. MS has fooled you by moving more and more of the booting to after the splash screen. It's not fully booted when you think it is.

MS decided Skype is a must have installed with the new office suite, it's idiotic. The default install one you can remove though.

The day before yesterday I upgraded a really crap Pentium laptop from 2010, had a 250GB HDD, 2GB of RAM. It took near two minutes to boot in W7, after upgrading it was around the 40 second marker.
In terms of apps, before it would freeze if you swapped between two Firefox tabs, can't have a second app running, now it manages about three for general usage, mostly thanks to the RAM compression. Linux would have been better, but not going to swap it for a pensioner.

Still a crap machine though, wanted to add 4GB RAM I had lying around, but the design was idiotic, would have had to remove the keyboard and go in from the top, didn't have a prying tool on-hand.

For you nothing is probably usable after boot since your hardware is probably even worse than the laptop above, since you're still holding on to that iPhone 5.

Yeah keep showing your ignorance. Win7 30s and it was usable. I actually added an extra 30s delay so things like Afterburner is properly loaded. Win10 is like a minute before the splash even disappears. Then I can't do anything at all. it takes another 30s or so just to set 5 environment variables. You can watch it as that happens and only then does Afterburner actually get loaded.

As I said previously this isn't the dinosaur you think it is. It was current gen hardware 2 years ago. Remind us again when Win10 was released...

An A4-7300 with 8GB dual channel RAM is anything but ancient as pointed out over and over again. Win7 had no problem with the really old drive and booted in 30 seconds to a usable state. If Win10 can't do it in over a minute and a half then the problem doesn't lie with the drive or the pc but obviously with Win10. So woot woot Win10 can boot in 20 seconds but NEEDS an SSD and new system to be able to do so. How pathetic is that

A 2c/2t low clock and low IPC CPU, so yes to terrible hardware.

Win 10 would still be faster to boot unless you mess with Windows, which knowing you and your "privacy issues", you probably did.
