Microsoft to rework Windows 8

Don't perform the windows blue update, simple as that.

Ill probably do it. I change. I just hope its not backwards... I hope we are given the option to keep that start button gone. I like the start menu system in win8. Reminds me of unity and gnome3

Do you actually use Windows?

Well I bought a copy for sub 300 just in case it turns into a big thing in the future...fix the crap metro thing & I might just install it.

This is the interesting thing, if you consider the bargain basement prices MS put on Windows 8 then even the sales (not to mention actual users) is pretty pathetic.

Hope I can turn off the Start button with the Blue update. All my commonly used apps like VS, Unity, Max, Photoshop, Firefox, etc are pinned so I don't need some start button to get to them. Games I add to Steam and launch from there ayway. Control panel and other admin stuff I can access via right click in the bottom corner or shortcut keys.

I can imagine that basic users, like my mom, won't know how to get to their new apps if they don't have some button to remind them where to click, assuming the app did not make a shortcut on the desktop and those icons are not hidden. Then again, my mom won't install anything onto the puter and I just pin what she needs to the start screen and on the taskbar. Start button is pretty useless for advanced users.

There is more to Windows 8 debacle than just the start button that is gone. You struggle to get the Control Panel and other ikons that just not there anymore. How do you shut the PC down? If you were not told how to get around Windows 8 if you are used to Windows 7, you would not know!

Stop bitching people, this brings back the start menu as well as all other control panel shortcuts that you are used too in win7
Even the shut down procedure is seamless after you install this...

It really is a little golden piece of software

Yes, people complained bitterly about Windows 95, but I think the difference is that all versions of windows, prior to 8, have had a consistent interface. If something works in a particular way in one area of the OS, you can expect it to do the same in all other areas of the OS.
If consistency is what you're after then Windows has never been the operating system for you. Inconsistency has always been one of it's core features.

They should have just added more breadcrumbs so people can find stuff easily. That is the main reason why i will not recommend windows 8 to anyone. Took me few months to find basic stuff that under windows 7 most people will find under 10 min.
If it took you months, then the problem is not with Windows. Earlier versions of Windows were not easier to figure out.

You struggled to get to the Control Panel? Yet it's incredible quick and easy. Shutting down is just as simple.

Frankly the same applied to any earlier version of Windows where Microsoft changed the interface and location of items.

Yes, Ive been using it probably for longer than you (since 3.0...since before the start button was even put in!). My gaming machine at home runs windows 8. I also run multiple Windows SQL and hosting servers.

Its funny how whenever someone questions Windows 8, its always assumed that the problem is with the person doing the asking and not Windows 8 itself.

Newsflash - with Microsoft changing it, even they admit Windows 8 is at fault.

Tell me how prior versions of Windows were as inconsistent as 8?

It's not just about launching apps.

Getting to control panel is a mission with win8.

If someone can't find the control panel they've got some serious problems that Windows just can't fix.

I guess they've realised their users are a lot dumber than they had previously imagined possible. I mean if someone with computer experience can't figure out how to shutdown their machine or get to the Control Panel in Windows 8 I don't think there's much Microsoft can do for them (any change Microsoft ever makes is going to trip these poor unfortunate souls up). Novice users and non-computer people on the hand I've had to give no more instruction for Windows 8 than with any previous version. The idea that earlier versions were easier to use is pure nonsense.

Besides that there were loads of articles out there complaining about the changes Microsoft made in Windows 7 (many first appeared in Vista, but a lot of people skipped that version, so they thought they were new in Windows 7).

Even when I found out how to do the things which I wanted to do (which didnt take that long, believe it or not), the way in which they now need to be performed is what makes it suck.

For me, its not that I dont know how to accomplish something with the Metro interface. I know very well how to do it, I just dont think its a good way to do it.

My chief complaint is that you cant mix the two interfaces - one full screen and one non full screen. You just cant, it doesnt work, it never did.

Yip same. In fact I tried Win 1 or 2 in the mid 80's.

Ag please dude. Trying to badmouth users who had difficulty shutting down their pcs, just shows how immature you are.

If people need to Google just how to shutdown Windows 8, then there is something very wrong with what you perceive as ease-of-use computing.

And I'm convinced that was one of the reasons ol' Steven Sinofsky was fired.

Acer: Windows 8.1 will see Microsoft come 'down to earth'

Acer executives have been some of the most vocal when it comes to discussing Windows 8, often slamming the operating system from various angles; the company has stated that Windows RT has "no value," that Windows 8 is "not successful," and that the Surface is "confusing" to customers. Despite all of this, the company has high hopes for Windows 8.1, which it believes will address a number of issues with Windows 8.

Acer President Jim Wong told the Wall Street Journal that his company told Microsoft that Windows 8 needs a balance between touch and non-touch features. "The world in the next five years is not going 100 percent to touch," he said. "Although touch makes a lot of possibilities for PCs, you need to take care of the rest of the world that doesn't need touch."

Executives at Acer have said that Microsoft is starting to listen, saying the Windows creator is becoming more "considerate" to suggestions and that they're adopting them "at a high percentage." Acer Chairman J.T. Wang also chimed in, saying that now Microsoft "go down to earth and they start to learn how people living on earth think" after "[living] in heaven."

Microsoft's Tami Reller has stated that Windows 8.1 (codenamed "Blue") will take the opportunity to respond to the feedback consumers have given in regards to Windows 8, while she also hinted the learning curve will be addressed. More information about what we should expect in Windows 8.1 will be released in the coming weeks, with a full reveal expected at BUILD 2013 along with a customer preview.

Hmmm, so the PC makers themselves think it was crap! :D

That casts new light on those who are blindly singing it's praises! ;)
