Microsoft to unbundle Explorer from Windows

I wonder what would happen if Microsoft decided to withdraw their products in the EU

The EU would go open source and MS would loose a market comparable to that of the US. Its shareholders would crucify the idiot who did that as stock plunged to the level of peanuts.

Secondly you guys do know that Ballmer threatened to pull out assets out of USA to avoid paying tax. They want to stay in Ireland and the EU because they can avoid paying tons of US Federal tax. By the same measure they avoid paying too much EU tax too. To suggest that MS would pull out of the second or possibly THE largest market (copies of Windows in the EU cost more than in the US because MS treats 1$ = 1Euro = 1GBP) is crazy.

MS has to obey the government. No-one is above the law.

People who think MS would pull out of the EU should read,

I believe it is unfair of anyone to expect M$ so have a selection of browsers. Free advertising/promotion for other 'rival' browsers. If I were them, I'd just ship it without a browser and let people choose their favourite one themselves.

IE became dominant because MS forcibly bundled Windows with new PCs and then forcibly bundled IE with Windows.
They even lied under oath to a US supreme court that Windows and IE were inseparable. If anyone else did that, they would rot in Federal prison.

MS' made its bed, it has to sleep in it.

This is justice. Pity the US DOJ did not have the balls to break MS up.

Well if i sell my product, I'll surely not push the oppositions stuff with mine.... sorry, they can sell it themselves. It's all a little silly in my opinion. As a user of Windows, I can make my own decisions thanks. Let the EU keep their silly a$$ laws!

BTW, dont use I.E anyways... OPERA all the way thank you very much!

You're not in the EU. Your version of Windows will not be affected.
However, if you want to do business in a country YOU have to obey the rules of that land. If you don't like it, tough - go somewhere else - which they won't do.

Now I hope that having many browsers on the windows install disc will become the standard way of distributing Windows all over the world, then it will be easier for websites to tell their users to upgrade to a better browser :)
