Microsoft already have a bundle of my money.... I wish they would "unbundle" that!

Use Total Commander - although it piggies on top of Explorer, I guess? I haven't used Explorer for years, except for the odd maintenance task here and there.

They are removing IE not Explorer. Explorer will still be there. Just that when you type in a URL into the Address bar it won't go to a website but launch your default browser (maybe even IE if you set it that way).

Well as much as I like Firefox I still need IE. I have to log hours worked against projects on some piece of crappy SAP implementation (it refuses in firefox and even in IE8 :O). I also need it for a better experience with exchange over the web...other than that it's all firefox baby! (until Chrome allows me to block images and flash).

AFAIK Trident (MSHTML.DLL) will still be around. Only the shell won't be, if you don't install it. This is only for the EU BTW.

Is it just me or does anyone else get irritated when Internet Explorer is referred to as just 'Explorer'?

Just a question. If the EU doesn't accept Microsoft's proposition to ship Windows 7 with IE and the option of choosing other browsers, but goes back to it's original stance where Windows 7 ships without IE, how in the hell are Windows 7 users supposed to access the internet to download any browsers?

The European Commission (EC) never said they wanted Windows without any browser at all. That was Microsoft throwing its toys out of its cot. The EC wanted MS to work with them to resolve the issue, one way was to have a selection screen at start up allowing for alternative browsers. The user could then still select IE and keep things the same. Then MS went all emotional and removed IE entirely.

Why do people think the EC (EU) forced MS to remove IE and leave it at that?

Well if i sell my product, I'll surely not push the oppositions stuff with mine.... sorry, they can sell it themselves. It's all a little silly in my opinion. As a user of Windows, I can make my own decisions thanks. Let the EU keep their silly a$$ laws!

BTW, dont use I.E anyways... OPERA all the way thank you very much!

I believe it is unfair of anyone to expect M$ so have a selection of browsers. Free advertising/promotion for other 'rival' browsers. If I were them, I'd just ship it without a browser and let people choose their favourite one themselves.
