Microsoft Windows 8 Release Preview

I'm not gonna waste my time with this, Could someone please let me know if there are options to completely disable metro ui and if there is a start button on the desktop?

I'd be really interested in reading comments of a desktop user with touch screen who uses their computer for more than twitter. How does one type a report or enter a large spreadsheet?

Is the screen still vertical or must it be laid flat on the desk? Does one then need a new desk in addition to a new screen were one to use Win 8?
 
I was very critical of it last time i installed it, but this time i'm really liking the look a lot better than i thought i would. It feels very crisp and modern.

Wait a second, I downloaded it in March whilst I was in the States, I thought the RC was released a while ago (like in Dec/Jan) :confused:

2nd Consumer Preview
Now Release Preview

Pick one :)

And no they where not the same, if you followed it from dev preview it was like watching the evolution of the new OS happening in front of your eyes... kinda different to normal Microsoft releases I must say.
 
One fiddle: You can't upgrade from CP to RP and keep apps, settings, etc -- only from Win7. So I have to restore the Win7 Acronis image to the laptop and then install the RP. That'll keep all my apps, etc. Starting now.

God this is a terrible OS.... this metro UI is really stupid and not practical. How do I disable it and go back to the normal windows start menu?

Read the previous Windows8 threads. Like anything new either learn or go back to windows 3.11 special edition.

It's gone. You have to hit The windows button for the start screen, the replacement of the start menu
