It's Midmar week any forum mates tackling the gruesome 1600m swim in Howick this weekend? If yes what time are you expecting or looking at achieving?

Hmmm, not this year for me, must do it again sometime. All the best and hope the weather is great on the day.

Swam it twice, years ago. In my current state I will drown after 400 meters or less. Feels great to finish though.

Swam it 5 times, unfortunately won't be swimming this year.

I'm going to be swimming it for the first time this year I'm currently clocking 40 minutes for 64 laps. Any hints on tips for race day?

Yes, swim straight, not from buoy on one side to another further on the other side. This actually happened to me and increased the distance I had to swim, go figure.

For your first swim, don't be hasty to be the first in your group to get in the water, let the more experienced swimmers get in first else they will 'trample' you as they try to get past you.

Thanks for the heads up definitely going to use it.

Huge hailstorm and the midmar swimmers are there for tomorrow's event.

Just got a message to say all the cars in the parking at one of the hotels are hail damaged. Her car is only months old so she's hoping insurance will give her a new one.

And don't panic. Seen swimmers panic from just being over whelmed at the distance and depth once they are out there. Just remember, you're swimming on the surface, whether it's a metre deep or 10, and if you've practiced, it's just a longer swim.

Best training tbh is a 50m pool. Even then, it's too easy to get used to wall touches etc.
