Hate the stuff. Hate hate hate. Was busy printing out notes etc etc when all of a sudden I realise that I cannot see this one spot on the screen - like a blind spot. Argh. Cannot even properly see what I'm typing at the moment. Took 2 x Myprodols. Works wonders for me (compared to not taking anything or taking a panado - but some pain and discomfort is still due within the next hour :-(

Starting to piss me off these migraines. They seem totally random too, cannot find what on earth triggers them. I thought at first it was stress as I was more prone to them while studying and exam times etc etc, but the fun fact of today is that I was suppose to write a big test at 19h, but decided to rather take the second opportunity and finish off a protect early that is due for next week. So I'm quite relaxed, even took a few hours and relaxed on mybb, attacking Kage etc etc - BAM miraine?

Anyone here also prone to getting them? Do you also get the one hour warning blindness thingy combined with these weird blurry/flashy spots?

I get them when I drink Castle, Castle Draught or Castle Lite. Not immediately after drinking it though, like around 1-2 days from drinking. Pity, coz I like Castle Lite. I get that blindness thingie, which I hate so much.

I get them from time to time. i.e. 2 to 3 times a year. You are lucky that the myprodol helps you. Mine just get worse and worse until I throw up or pass out. I don't get blind spots but Imy eyes become severly light sensative. Doctors can't explain them either. I had CT scans, MRIs, blood test, blah blah. No cause found. Just have to live with them. But you should probably go see a quack just incase they can find the cause of yours.

Dude, you need to haul ass to a doc like yesterday. Blind/flashing spots + migraine is a really bad combo & the doc will prob send you for brain scans.

This is something airborne, without a doubt. I had this the start of the month and wanted to keel over. I spoke to a work colleague in another town and she had the same. A few people around me also had it.

The only thing that fixed me up was Sinus tablets, about R40 at a pharmacy, I used it for a few days, about 4 days ,migraine subsided and switched to Paracetamol.

Ciao Idle ;) :D :p

A bit off topic, but Gen Payne is the "generic" of myprodol. It is also produced by adcock, but is only about R40 for 30

Dude go and see your GP. Not trying to scare you but just going and get checked out.

I prefer the migraine lol.

Check out an optomestrist and a dentist..

Optom suggested an increase in vitamin C intake to see if things go better... thing is them migraines are an on/off thing. I'd never know if the vitamin c actually helps, as I've found Nothing stops the migrain if it really wants to hit me hard - nothing. Not even myprodol is 100% foolproof. The 'attacks' varies in degrees of pain. Eg, the current dose I took actually killed about 95% of the pain and discomfort I usually feel when I would have taken panado. I've had it worse where I was bed ridden for about 4-6 hours, even with myprodol.

A Dentist you say? Interesting ...

You're not supposed to drink a case in one sitting :D

lol - luckily I do not drink at all.

me = hate doctors . And it runs in the fandamily as far as I've heard. I've heard of people that had it much worse than what I have it. My current one is linked to my sinus I think.

Bingo. There is some weird yellow flower ridden trees in town that blooms this time of the year and is directly connected to my sinuses and in turn probably connected to my freaking migraines. I dunno the name of the trees though ...

Long time no see mind you. Hows things hangin'? Ciao t3ra :p

Exactly the ones I use.

+1

Just as a side note, one of the reasons why most people die from strokes is not the stroke itself, but because they ignore they basic symptoms which occur about 2 hours before your brain becomes a permanent doorstop. If somethings wrong, get it fixed. Don't wait because you're scared. You'll be a lot more scared if you leave it too long.

As a kid I used to get migraines regularly (once every 20 days roughly from the age of 12-17). Also used to think it was caused by stress, lack of sleep, intensive exercise, diary. Then I had my eyes tested and due to astigmatism was prescribed glasses. Migraines went away even though I stopped wearing the glasses after about a year.

In the space of about 15 years I've had maybe 3 then in the last 30 days I've had 2!!!!!!!! Never considered it might be seasonal...

I get all the symptoms associated with a classic migraine, blind spots, numbness in the hand, mouth and throat, throbbing temples, sensitivity to sound and light. Last 90-120 minutes but can sap the energy out of one for a lot longer. Quite debilitating.

EDIT: At a point one battles to string a sentence together, non sufferers always find that quite amusing...

I suffer from migraines too. Sometimes there's no warning other times I get the blind spots, flashing spots/auras... all the nasty things that go with it, only meds help kind of help me is a combination of Imigen and Cataflam, and even then I have to try and sleep it off for a few hours, if that combination of meds doesn't work then I end up going to the doctor for an injection (can't remember what kind now).

There are headache clinics around that can supposedly help people with migraines, one of the doctors was interviewed on Cape Talk last year, I haven't been yet myself, but maybe it's worth looking into:
The Headache Clinic

While it is worth being checked out to see that it isn't anything else, blind spots, flashing and various other things commonly accompany migraines.

I get migraines somewhat frequently. If I had to suck a figure Id say about 10 a year. I cant identify the trigger but I suspect it is sinus related not because of a seasons etc but rather because of where the pains are located.

It starts with a spot pain in my left shoulder and behind and slightly below my left eye and these two spots feel like they are connected by a live wire that runs from the shoulder spot up my neck and over my head until it joins the face spot. It then gets worse and worse until I vomit and am basically immobile. The trick for me is to zap it in the early stages with 2 gen payne and lay down in a dark, quiet area and sleep if possible. At work sometimes I couldnt get to a dark place so I would take the gen payne, put some soothing music on the laptop and put headphones on just loud enought to drown out office noise, put a note on the back of my chair saying "Leave me alone" and then throw my jacket over my head and lean back in my chair with my feet up.

If I dont take the early steps then it knocks me for up to 48hrs.

I started getting them at a very young age, around 7 or so, it went away a few years later and came back when I was around 16 went to see a specialist as it was so bad I couldn't go to school, eyes tearing n had red veins in my eyes from the pain, he said it was a flu which triggered it n I was put on a course of meds that fixed the problem until now, started again with the 'blind spots; stars' ect. but doesn't last as long....maybe a few min but comes and goes throughout the day, not half as bad as before though. you should see a Dr to be safe

How much water do you drink? You should be doing at least 2 liters a day.

I am only bringing this up because I get really bad headaches which could develop into migraines when I start to get dehydrated.
Ironically, you probably take the Myprodols with water, thereby beginning the re-hydration process.

Spot on dear sir - great observation. I have come to the same conclusions over the past years. Could usually 'blame' my migraine on not realising that I've not ate or drank something during a long work/study session. But this was not always the case - it is not nearly a foolproof diagnosis at all. In any case these days I tend to always carry a bottle of energade and a packet of nuts & raisins with me to keep myself hydrated etc etc.
