This reason for this thread is to get us much info from Afrihost so that I can make a decision to move from being directly with Metrofibre to Afrihost.

- How quickly can Afrihost get me online after the cancelation is done. If I put in a cancellation for end of May. What is timeline for getting me online in June.
- I do not have an ONT Box as the Router supplied by Metrofibre has this built in, can this be ordered beforehand so there is no delays?
- How much control do we have with the Router from Afrihost and can we do port forwarding.
- I see you have the mesh System and Huawei Router, can we choose which one we want?
- Will I be able to move to my own private Router in the future.
- Do you have static IP's options for Fibre links on Metrofibre? Not required but more for future reference.

Enjoyed the price of Metrofibre and honestly no issues with the Internet, but the lack of control and support is making it quite difficult to stay with them.

The only thing holding us back from moving is the downtime, we have to be online as we work from home.

Thanks in advance for the reply.

Morning.

Migrate in lead time is 24 to 72 hours once we have placed the order with the FNO.
We can only place the order with the FNO once the line has been released.

I am not sure I understand you correctly, please share a picture of the ONT installed.
With a metrofibre client directly moving to another ISP, there may be an ONT swap (803 calix model) to ensure that it is Open Access for the ISP to activate.
Our router order is dependent on the fibre order with the FNO; it will be processed once we have successfully placed it.

You should be able to do port forwarding.
We use DHCP connection mode for MFN.

- I see you have the mesh System and Huawei Router, can we choose which one we want?

Yes, you can set up your own mesh system using any device of your choice.
You do not have to use the router model we offer; any fibre-compatible router is fine.

Unfortunately, not.

Hi @Afrigirl

Appreciate the assistance and response.

Ok so If my line is cancelled on the 31st of May, because I need to give a Month's notice Afrihost will probably only be able to request a line order from the 1st of June. So will have to brace myself for upto a week of no internet incase.

In regards to the ONT, so the Router supplied by Metrofibre is a Nokia Router and the Fibre goes straight into the Router. Yeah so there might be additional downtime from Metrofibre to send someone to install an ONT.

- Thanks for the update on the Port Forwarding as I would like to host my own Servers and this is currently not working.

Thanks for the feedback from your side.

Just a heads up that everyone does a migration at the end of the month so its congested and you might be frustrated. Rather take a pro rata hit for a few days and do it during a calmer time period.
Is that even possible, I know most ISP's you need to cancel by the end of the Month but you have to let them know also before the new Month starts.

I moved over to Afrihost on 1st of the month and was sorted out quickly, they should be able to install the ONT before the 1st of the month, they just won't be able to take over the line before the 1st

This makes it more promising to move. Thank you

Yes, possible. We can place it as a repair order on our end so that an early release is requested with your current ISP.

Hi so what should I tell Metrofibre now, just say can I please request to cancel it as soon as possible. Then send you the reference number and also go on your site and do the new order?

Do you have a cancellation pending with them? And what is the effective date?

I don't that's why I started this discussion to first see if Afrihost will be able to accommodate my requirements.
I dont know what is the cancellation notice with MFN.
But should you not want to serve the whole period that they will give you, you may proceed to sign up, and we will assist with requesting for an early release.

Ok awesome let me find out from them and I will PM you the reference number and any additional information. Thank you

I also cancelled with MFN just waiting for them to come and do ONT swap. Hopefully there will not be a down time, but I have LTE backup just incase.

Let me know how it goes, this is what I see on MFN website.

To cancel your service send an email to [email protected] and use the subject line related to the request (i.e. subject: Cancellation). Provide your account number, name and address.
  • Cancellations: 48 hours’ notice before the last billing date of the month

I will probably wait till Monday to do my cancellation and will have to wait till the end of the Month as we will be paying for it.

Let me know how your experience goes. I honestly hated the Nokia Router with no ability to make simple changes.

After the line was deactivated by MFN, I had a downtime of 8 hours.
Communication is key to ensure that your downtime is less.

There was a bit of back and forth with MFN not wanting to send technician over to do the swap but Afrihost sorted it out.

Did you communicate with Afrigirl or AfriNatic about getting the technician to do the swap?

I'm also moving away from Metrofibre... The price is not bad but the support is non-existent... That nokia router they give you is just rubbish... It's now after 7PM and I believe metrofibre is busy throttling my line because it is peak hour... Just wish I spent more time on this forum to know that I should have avoided Metrofibre as an ISP... Lesson learned.
