Hi

Was wondering if is common for an ISP to charge a migration/activation fee to move to them?

I have been told this is a charge raised by the Fiber provider. In my case Octotel @ R900. There was a MyBB article, where Vumatel does the same @ R 999!

The only way to waive this fee is to sign up for a 24-month contract.

In my case and I believe for many other people, we already have all the hardware, yet they also insist on providing a router. So to me, it sounds like this is more of the reason for the "migration" fee.

Ciao

Which ISP? as Cool Ideas absorbs this fee some others charge you.

Looks like Supersonic also has free activation

This is Adept. IIRC RocketNet also charged this fee on at least the 10Mb package.

Yeah Rocketnet does charge the customer the connection fee, Try Cool Ideas or Supersonic.

The activation fee is R1500 through rocketnet on octotel..10/20/100 meg.

Unfortunately, the fibre providers all charge a fee for a new activation. Some ISPs charge this to you, and some ISPs absorb this cost. Unfortunately we can't assist on Octotel at the moment. But if you look around, you will find other ISPs who cover this cost.
