Mike's (non-Sunsynk) System

Interesting, so when i did my COC recently they actually changed my inverter breaker from 60A down to 40A.
The reason was to "protect my cables" when I asked.
In my mind the higher the better...

I have a 8kw.
Perhaps the cables can't handle 60a? who knows.

So this happened on Tuesday night.

Installer came out today to replace the breaker but will now have to look at replacing it with proper 60A ones on both the Eskom and inverter sides...
this iimagereminded me to arrange with my installers to do maintenance on my systems and check all cables, Screws etc. Been pushing my systems hard these past few weeks.

for a moment there I thought this was your CT coil and nearly crapped my pants. But then I zoomed in and realized it's something else.

My money is on this, or the original one was stripped and therefore loose.
My electrician is almost OCD when it comes to that, whenever he sees a DB, he whips out his screwdriver and tightens every screw head he can find.
I have had this happen due to a loose screw, now I make sure to check and tighten all the screws every few months

How often should maintenance be done on these systems?

that depends on how many tiktok and youtube videos the installer watched before coming out to install your 500k pride and joy ,using china export components with zero torque info .
One of my systems are 3 years old and no maintenance has been done on it. It's a deye. I'll focus on that one. The other 3 systems are more or less a year old.

if its installed properly and the wire screws werent overtightened and were torqued correctly you should never have an issue ,get a sparkie to take a thermal image of the db ,if no abnormal heat under load then your all good . overtighten the screws and major kak .

Thanks. Any recommendations of someone in Cape town that can do the thermal image thing but also rewire/ torque if necessary?

unfortunately no .most good contractors will have thermal cameras .if at a minimum just feel the area above the lever and below you will get a feel of whats normal .overtightening causes the strands to move out from under the screw ,so instead of the cable being able to run 40 amps some strands are missing so it may be ok at say 15 amps ,but as amps rise the cable gets hotter causing more resistance more heat more resistance and then it cooks .more than 10 air fryers at a time is risky .try ,i think its Danamus Crown in cape town ,only one i can think of ,there is a dr zoid i think on the forum thats in cpt thats just had his installed

nice explanation thanks. I'll phone around. I putt my primary system under severe load with my crypto miners.

if under heavy load then all contact points must be loosened and retorqued ,after the first time doing it you will get a feel for further down the road

Shouldn't you use ferrules when there is a screw connector that is not using a clamp design?
