Mike's (non-Sunsynk) System

I have that sunsynk dongle from the puc. Its pathetic. 10min delayed readings and with solar smart, cant adjsut settings.

I believe the newer dongles are way better and realtime etc

I grabbed a solar assistant and couldn't be happier. Real time, and remote settings changes work perfectly

You can adjust some settings with the solarman one. The new sunsyk dongle is crap, not worth the money at all.

@AchmatK could help you connect to solarman smart/business all settings can be changed remotely via app or online.

After a few weeks realtime doesnt matter to me anymore anyway so 10 min delay became irrelevent.

Why? I can believe it. About R2500 for a dongle! But would appreciate detail.

Just of of curiosity,

What was the price for labour?
Around 17k if I recall correctly. It's a labour intensive job that took about 3 days. I would say the ballpark figure is between 15k - 20k for a system this size...

Thank you.

I will give them a call.

I have a battery(hubble) and invertor sunsynk.

I will see if they are able to supply and install just the panels(8-10) and 1 more hubble

You’re paying for 60 second maybe real time update. Solar assistant does all that and battery reporting as well.

So some feedback on the CT coil issue.

It turns out that when the distance from your inverter to your DB board is too long, the limiting factor is not the cable length. When the length exceeds 25m, the signal reading starts dropping off exponentially. It will still kind of work, but an inaccurate reading means an inaccurate supply of PV to your non-essentials.

There's a smart meter that you can connect to the CT which will always provide the correct reading. Just waiting on a quote and I'll provide more details...
I finally got my CT coil sorted today - it was moved to the DB board and i extended the original cable with CAT5e. Now working 100s and i was able to even charge my geyser using excess PV this afternoon. This should go a long way to reducing my Eskom utilisation from 450 units this month... will see how low i can get it

Much better and using the sunsynk for how it was intended to work.

Grid usage should drop significantly now that you can power non essentials from excess pv and battery.

So one thing i wasn't sure about is which direction should the arrow point? To the grid or to the load? Secondly - i am using a CBI Astute to turn the geyser on / off - has anyone experienced it not showing the current + wattage when the item is on? It only;y happens on the geyser but works fine on the one i have on the pool pump. The pool pump is a v1 and the geyser is a v2

Hi Mike, when the guys came to install from solar advice... did they separate essential and non essential....

I think that specification is up to the client to decide.
Correct you can decide what you want on essential and non-essential. I have my geyser and oven on non-essential. Pool pump runs during the day only so I have it on essentials...

That is normal... When the water temperature in the geyser reaches the thermostat's temperature then it stops drawing power ie: current is zero.
If you want to "store" more energy in your hot water then increase your Geyser's thermostat's temperature setting

Is this configurable on the console?

Thank you, are you using the aux output? And are you using the CT clamp?
