Mike's (non-Sunsynk) System

Hey all, looking at going with the Deye 5kw, have already purchased the Dyness 4.8kw battery and will be getting 8 x 460w Canadian Solar panels. My plan is to start off small and build up over time.

From the general feedback here seems like the Deye is a good choice for inverter, is there any cons to consider? I was looking at the Luxpower LXP 5kw which is slightly cheaper but am a bit torn.
One more question on the Deye, how is the app/remote monitoring? I see the Luxpower has a dedicated app which looks very user friendly

Solarman is a heap of poop. Its ok, but its still poop. That will work if you get supplied the typical "wifi" adaptor. If you don't, no big deal - you can go with 3rd party solutions - solarassistant.io is popular, or roll your own with HomeAssistant (both of those will need a RS485 cable connected to the inverter).

Either of those would be cheaper (and dare I say... far better) if you don't get the "wifi" adaptor with the inverter.

It comes with a Solarman Dongle that allows it to be connected to the Solarman app + website. The apps themselves are decent in terms of showing information but are a bit limited when it comes to frequency of data updates. I think they update every 5-15mins - the Sunsynk Solarman combo updated at that rate. If you want realtime updates then you need to get a different device (Solar Assistant for example).

Thanks, think that should be suitable. I am fine if it is a few minutes delayed. Assume the app is just for monitoring, and you can't setup/adjust settings through the app (which it seems you can with Luxpower app)?

You need the Solarman Business app and get them to activate the feature to be able to change settings.

That looks nicer than the standard Solarman app. To whom did you reach out to activate it? Is it pricey?
The business app has been updated and is free. You only need to have them activate it if you want to do remote control...

@AchmatK should be able to

You need to register a "business", then give that business access via the smart app...
I did the steps, set it up but it's not it pulling through any data...

Ok, got mine working.

But you have to unbind your logger from normal app.

You need to give access to your business from the Smart app.

3 dots, then Authorize.

Authorize, then search for your business name. Should show up as a plant on the Business app...
