hahaha - good idea...Nice, maybe you can use that to start a Phase 3 thread since you don't have an install one...![]()

So from them till now we have an approx 30% increase. Insane!!!Here’s what I paid excluding installation in September.
Not really 30%. Those are 2nd life batteries. There's no way that 1st life batteries cost R56k for 15 kWh, even 2 years ago...So from them till now we have an approx 30% increase. Insane!!!
8 May is years away... yikes... hectic times.Just placed my order.
I'm starting small, and will expand when I better understand my usage patterns, and add batteries and panels accordingly.
Earliest date I could get for installation was 8 May.

Many people don't appreciate the levels one needs to go to be absolutely off-grid and be independent, without compromise, on Eskom. So when the domestic is here and there's cloud in the afternoon, the batteries only get charged to like 85% by evening. It's 13:00 now and even though I generated 22 kWh so far, the batteries are only at 54%.
So now it looks like I need more panels. FFS it never ends...

JHBjhb or cpt ?
It's a Shoto 5.1kWDecent pricing although battery make not specified.
Price is not bad. I have similar. One 5kwh battery is not much for that system. You’ll probably need it to be 100% charged by the grid for the 4.5 hour loadshedding. I started with two batteries and have just ordered a third.Just placed my order.

Only two vendors out of about 12 bothered to get back to me and arranged a site visit, DRES and Solar Advice. DRES installed a system for a friend of mine and he's very happy with it and the after sales support. Solar Advice I saw mentioned here on myBB and their quote came in marginally higher than this one. I was impressed with their knowledge and professionalism. Ultimately I went with DRES because they don't charge for any additional callouts eg. Adding a battery or extra panel and their team isn't outsourced like Solar Advice. Having a friend recommend them swayed my decision more than anything.Vendor?
It's almost certainly underspecced. We're going to have to have a serious change of habits in the house.Price is not bad. I have similar. One 5kwh battery is not much for that system. It’s not an off grid system, but you should be good for Stage 6 to 8.It's almost certainly underspecced. We're going to have to have a serious change of habits in the house.
What's the C rating on those batteries? If it's 0.5 it will kneecap your system severely as your draw will be limited to half of the battery"s capacity during loadshedding.JHB

0.5 recommended but 1 supportedShotos can do up to 0.75C i think
Recommend 0.5C, max 1C. Maybe not the best choice when starting off with 1 battery?0.5 recommended but 1 supported
Think my bms says it supports 115a
It depends on how heavy a user you are.Recommend 0.5C, max 1C. Maybe not the best choice when starting off with 1 battery?
The installer recommended the Shoto. Said he's done over 300 installs with Shoto and hasn't had issues. My sister-in-law is getting the same system installed in April. Will be interesting to see how it works out for them. I don't have much heavy current stuff in the house. The only thing that would really be of concern would be the geyser.Recommend 0.5C, max 1C. Maybe not the best choice when starting off with 1 battery?
