So since last week I have been having a mind shattering head ache at the top right of my head, above my right eye.
Initially I thought it was because I was smoking too much and it's my sinus acting up.

But today it started at 12pm, I drank 2 Comprals and it worsened, drank 2 pain killers again an hour later and the same pain was there. I fell asleep at 4 and woke at 5 and it was still splitting sore.

Then I cried some tears due to something personal and the head ache went away?
Is that logical?

What has me crying have to do with the relief of a head ache? Anyone?

Water on the Brain? ;)

Serious though.Maybe you were feeling very stressed and the cry relieved the pressure?

Have you checked your blood pressure lately?

No I haven't. Thanks for the heads up. I do feel like my BP is a bit high. I drink quite a lot of meds and during my last check up they also didn't take it.

That said, what is the fastest method for me to lower it? I don't eat salty food etc. and eat fairly healthy. Would smoking increase my BP?

No, I had the same yesterday and the day before, but I didn't cry. I had to ride it out on the pain killers to feel better. So it's weird that the cry solved it.

Could be your emotional state..rather check with your doc as I've been on BP tabs for years but no one knows what caused it.

I know this will sound like hippie cr@p,but sometimes a good cry can solve a lot of things.

Physically and emotionally.

I feel better now. I read in one of the links that a hot bath works as well. Just had one and didn't feel pain in the slightest. Now I'm starting to feel it again after I've cooled down. I definitely think it's high BP. Thing is I don't see my docs often and I know they'll probably pump some other meds into me and quite frankly I'm not up for it.

I'll rather lay off the drink and unhealthy habits for a while and see if I get better. If I don't, I'll go and see the doc.

Thanks absynth. I won't say I cry a lot, but I do cry at times when alone and when I get emo with music and such. It doesn't usually feel like I feel better, but then again, I don't usually have physical pain prior to getting my cry on :p

Smoking raises you blood pressure.
So does, alcohol, stress and any number of other things.

You could visit a pharmacy, and ask them to check your blood pressure for you. Most pharmacies do the tests.
You could also get yourself a digital electronic BP monitor. I got mine from Dischem for about 400 bucks.

High BP, or hypertension can be life threatening.
If yours is high, get it sorted as soon as possible.
You might have to go onto meds to help lower it.

Various types of BP meds have various side effects.
With Prexum I was caughing non-stop, especially at night. Atracand Plus works well for me.
Sometimes hypertension can take the lead out of your pencil, sometimes the meds can cause that as well.

The important thing is to find out if you have high BP, and get your headaches sorted out.

Might be sleep deprivation. You cried becos of something personal, was that stressing you out in a way that you were losing sleep ?

Maybe its the BP but I'm no expert on that.

Definitely does take the lead out of my pencil. I have to try 3 times harder just to shoot my gun, it's not fun. If I can help it, I wouldn't use BP meds, as I'm on quite a few mends right now. Smoking is also an issue, but I do smoke less when at work, than I do at home, so I think I've got that one nailed.

Sucks to know it's life threatening, but I do know the cause. I have been going a bit rough on the drink with my friends lately. They always want me to tag along, so I've been drinking way more than I actually should. I can't blame them though, I blame myself, but I'll curb down on it starting this week.

Thanks for the responses and for helping me out with advice. I feel a lot better this morning and hope that my head ache stays away today :)

I get it enough sleep and didn't cry about something that gives me stress (well not like other things do in any case). I still think it's high BP based on the above.

Sounds like sinus to me try get a sinucon or some other sinus relieving tablet normal painkillers wont do anything for sinus pain... next time you have the headache tilt your head slowly backwards and forwards and see fi you can feel any relief/ more intense pain in doign so if you do tis defiantly sinus

So I spoke to a doctor on a personal level today and he said I should get my BP tested at the pharmacy. I went and it is high (close to a problem), I have to test it again tomorrow morning before work.

So I'm not looking forward to this :(

Also drink less caffeine.

You need less stress too, it ain't good for BP.

I am personally borderline on the High BP, but I manage most of the time, think the regular exercise helps a lot.

What's high? 160/100 and higher is problematic but even then it's relatively easily controlled through medication and/or diet.

High blood pressure is more of a problem when it goes undiagnosed which is quite often as there not too many obvious symptoms.

@teraside - I get these eye-migranes as I'd describe them approximately once every month to six weeks.
They usually last for about 24 hours at a time, during which I continually need to take pain-killers to keep the pain down to a bearable level.

I don't smoke whatsoever, however, so think you can discount that, and I regularly donate blood (at every donation I think blood pressure is checked ?) , and my levels are normal, so don't pin too much hope on it being that.

I had (eye) lens implants put into my eyes over a decade ago, and used to think that the pain might be caused by one of them - the pain usually sits around either my left or right eye, but sometimes just above one of them, so is not always consistently in the same place.

The only person who was decisive enough to tell me exactly what caused these headaches, was an excellent dentist. He said it's from gritting your teeth (mainly while sleeping or even sub-consciously during the day), which after some hours, gradually brings on the pain & it leads to full-on pain after about an hour or two.

I don't know if I believed him, and have not gone to see a Dr. about it, as I don't think they'd find the cause, as they happen infrequently (to me, anyway).

I find that a hot bath also helps temporarily, and ironically, sitting up leads to feeling less pain than lying down & trying to apply pressure to the sore eye.

Note that when you take tablets - if you crush them between 2 spoons first - they get into your system a lot quicker (apparently), and the effects are felt much sooner.

Try taking Syndol or equivalent - Dis-Chem have a generic called Resdol. As long as you're unable to find the cause of the pain, and you need to take tablets, try these by crushing 1 at a time (swallow with water). But they'll make you tired, so ensure you don't need to drive for about 3 hours after taking each.

Sounds like a typical stress-related tension headache to me.

Chat to your doctor for a proper painkiller that is focused on this problem.

I've been prescribed Trepeline in my case, but there might be less extreme options available to you.

Thanks guys (and the responses on the previous page).

I tested my BP again this morning and it was "a little bit high, but nothing to cause concern". According to the people at the Pharmacy.

I do feel better this morning however and clutched out early last night and had a good night's rest.
I am just a bit confused as to what is wrong with me however.

It can't be sinusitis: Vicks, Inhalers and so on doesn't take the pain away in the slightest.
It doesn't seem now since this morning that I suffer from chronic high BP.

Yet, when I breathe in deeply (a deep breath), my head is sore at the same area I described and I know it is going to kill me later in the day again.
Regarding the crushing of teeth. I know I do at times when I sleep, but I don't do it when awake, so I'm not sure if it could be that. I'll have to get a gum guard to test :p

I really don't expect the forum to give me medical advice and I know I need to see a doctor, but I'm just not going to do it now. Call me a fool, but I'm knocking off work tomorrow and have a well deserved week's holiday ahead and I want to fully enjoy it. I don't want to feel crap on meds and side effects etc.

I will see how things go and how I feel. If it becomes unbearable again like earlier in the week, then I will have a look at some pain killers that have a kick in them :p

Go to a doctor buddy.

The internet really isn't the best place for medical advice.

And pain killers are treating the symptom, not the cause.

The painkillers only help me to keep the pain in check, but don't get rid of it until about 24 hours are up.
I find that if I take them as soon as I feel the pain starting, the ache doesn't progress for the rest of the time, to levels felt when I don't take anything at all. But I'm drowsy for longer due to the paracetamol in the tabs. - each one should have about 450mg, so look on the outside of packaging before buying.

Another good tab to keep handy is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excedrin
Can be bought at Clicks, Pick 'n Pay etc.

I'm not a hypercondriac, btw.
Just keep a supply of tabs. around for these once in a while occurrences
