Mini Cooper extra storage space

Hi guys, bought the wife a 2015 mini cooper 5 door in mint condition. What an amazing engine, really a great car except for storage space inside. I have googled allot. It seems if you dont have a centre armrest you can import this, but they say this gets in the way of the hand break, is it really that bad. Secondly, i saw there are plastic door storage compartments which can be got for cheap, at least these slot in easy and you gain extra storage for cell phone etc...

Has anyone done any of the above. Having a little extra storage space would come in handy.
 
I stumbled across a fix for the armrest extra space issue, which incidentally improved the car's cornering ability (and fuel efficiency) as well! It's simple: I put the wife on a crash diet.

What about her airbags?
 
If the arm rest was an optional extra in this country it might be worth calling breakers yards or scrap yards and seeing if they have any and get it fitted cheap. The worst that can happen is you don't like it and remove it.

I had a similar issue in my Audi A1 - nowhere to really put your stuff like keys, phone, wallet, smokes, change etc... It is pretty irritating...
