What would the minimum spec graphics processor -GPU- and/or GPU card (most economical) for the C2D be to play modern games at a reasonable and enjoyable frame rate at near max or reasonable settings ????

I am looking for good value for money. Birthday present for son.

8800GT is hanging round the 2k mark these days .... can't go wrong there IMO.

Can I be your son too?
8800GT is definitely a must for a GREAT gaming experience. What C2D are you planning on pairing it with?

Me 2!! lol

if you want you can also get a 9600GT 1.6k at Landmark.co.za not as "powerful" as the 8800GT but get's it done ;)

Another vote for 9600GT. Costs less than the 8800GT but kicks out enough for you to be able to play nicely. :)

Plus the Inno3D Overclocked Edition is only R1685,78 that's crazzzzzy! :D

And both 8800GT and 9600GT are able to do CUDA, new driver support PhysiX in future?

wikipedia said:
NVIDIA's GeForce 8 Series supports a new GPU-based Newtonian physics acceleration technology named Quantum Effects Technology. NVIDIA provides a SDK Toolkit for what they call CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) technology that offers both a low and high-level API to the GPU. Few technical details are available about the physics side of it, and it is not yet clear whether this is part of any existing physics SDK, or a completely separate engine.

Looks like it? :) for the 8 series but then what about 9 & G200's ?
