Minister lights fire under connectivity

"... facilitate other electronic advances such as the transmission of television programme signals to cellphones"

Does this imply that the SABC will want TV licences for cellphones ?

Someone is making an early play for Telkom's 2008 journalist of the year award

"She directed Icasa to take steps that would facilitate other electronic advances such as the transmission of television programme signals to cellphones."

Yeah - just what we need - more effing tv. Just gimme my 10meg pipe with no cap, thank you!

If LLU is urgent and gets 4 + 1/2 yrs.. how fast is sat-3 thing gonna happen? 8yrs?

Think the author misundestood meaning of the phrase 'to light a fire under' ... doesn't mean that the Minister is burning it to the ground which is the more accurate interpretation :D

Communications minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri yesterday made a series of announcements aimed at speeding up the spread of broadband connectivity in the country

One last sarcastic comment for the day ... 4 years is not speeding up, we call it an unecessary DELAY.

I kinda pity all government departments, postoffices and the poor being forced to have to use Sentech as a provider..

maybe the author read the thread on lighting farts..

Any particular country that comes to mind, 56kman? And you have to take into consideration current telecommunications costs in that country as well. No other country in the world finds itself in our unique government created situation

This woman is so obviously so deep in Telkom's pockets I don't understand why nobody in SAn "journalism" is pushing for an investigation or even vaguely intimating as such.
