To be honest I don't know why they are fighting this battle at all. Most if not all couriered items are above 1kg or dimensional weight above that. If not just stuff small items in a stock 2 box or larger, or add a free brick

Exactly, if the post office was functioning as intended people would rather use them as it's cheaper than a courier but these idiots don't get that. They want all the money with none of the actual work.
 
This is africa.

Can you find a better example of a rent-seeking economy, than what is currently playing out in this very country. We were a sophisticated economy once, but so many of these bricks have been broken down, that we are actually in the current state, typically only seen in despotic african sh!tholes.

Value-added = 0. Pay me because I say so! The "construction mafia" does it with guns. The "post office" does it with legislation.

Rent. Seeking. Economy.

First port of call for me, would be to scrutinise the Minister's bank accounts, and look for some interesting "please-push-this-legislation-through" payments.
 
Hehe, just received a package other day from the US via UPS via Post office.
During the trip it was handed over between UPS and ZA Customs. Each time it got into contact with a south african it somehow managed to sit still for 10 days. for a total of 2 months...

It is amazing though I received my package. Really unexpected.
They should close the post office down before they start getting COVID stupid and requiring everyone to use them.

Identical to gangs on Long street demanding a ‘fee’ from restaurants. Only difference is even these street gangs provide protection to some degree.
 
You guys are missing their point. We have 50 Million people plus without work in SA. government needs money to help them. needs "Jobs " for them. even if they are not productive they just need a salary.

Any Postal Service has become a dinosaur.

Electronic communication has replaced the need for any Post Office. This death started happening LONG before the onset of Online Shopping.

This is just another example of an SOE that is nothing but a Job Center, where votes are bought with salaries.
 
What is SAPOS used for these days? Early in the 2000's they were going or try to close Postnet I think? This is a typical Socialist example.
