Just another case of history repeating itself. 60k years ago some humans moved out of this continent and humans advanced, while the rest were too ignorant to change their ways.

Oh please. Commercial meat farming is just as barbaric, if not more so, than animal sacrifice.

I have no problem with killing do my fair share of hunting - most visitors will be western christians and must now endure some pagan ritual - and as I stated if slaughering cattle is the only way to show the world that we are african then it is fusked up

For many people, there's a big difference between killing whales and killing cows - probably because cows are specifically bred for it and are perceived as less "intelligent" than whales or whatever.

Personally, I have a problem with the cow slaughter and the whale slaughter.

Me too but I do eat meat. So I rather not say anything.

Like the Diwali thread taught me. They are all just animals kill it and get over with it. If the Cow whale or dolphin is suffering they are a bunch of whimps.


Disclaimer: Please note I do find horrible but since I was told to either move or kill my dog I guess we could say the same for the cows and whales. If you do not like it move or shut up. Not that I agree but that is in essence what people are saying. I do not in any form or way condone the torture or miss treatment of animals.

It's not different at all. The sacrificed cows will get eaten at a celebration afterwards. You guys are upset because the killing is out in the open, and it's much more convenient to have your meat slaughtered in some obscure annattoir. Pout of sight, out of mind eh?

Overly PC bullsht and other sensitivities aside, the existence of abattoirs has more to do with public health than anything else.

you are missing the bigger picture - we want people to come enjoy the event and spend their cash - everybody excited for the game to begin, seats are full next silance as some dudes drag a cow into the arena and kill it, wow fun start to the games - fusk man think for yourself how this will go down.

I have nothing against killing or eating meat but surely as a cultural tourist attaraction it leaves much to be desired

Drama Queen. South Africa gets millions of tourists every year and the murder rate of tourists in this country is extremely low. Lower for example than Australia (depite them only getting half the tourists we get).

And to call ritual slaughtering "barbaric" is ironic. Because as western people we not only slaughter cattle too , but we even do it with all the passion of a factory production line.

Anyway, it's my understanding that the sacrifices will take place at the opening of the stadia - NOT in front of crowds of football fans at the start of a game or something, but for a gathering of dignitaries etc.

By the way if you're an animal rights activist you should consider boycotting the following companies. Hyndai , Kia , Samsung and LG. They're Korean companies and in Korea I've seen dogs tie to ropes to short they can't stand up (don't want the muscle to develop) and then when the time comes tied upside down and beaten to death with a stick (to get adrenalin in the system..make the mean more medicinal apparently). Dogs are also kept in single pens where they can't move on a mass scale like chickens. It all goes on and it's everywhere. Cows and chickens are stupid things , but let' not abuse poor Fido.

I'm serious....don't buy anything Korean. It's cr@p quality stuff anyway mostly made in china and then billions of dollars spend on branding to make it seem equal to japanese stuff which in no way is it close. They are also notorious for the terrible conditions they put their workers through and the bad money they pay them. And also Koreans have a culture where they delibrately only buy Korean stuff and avoid buying anything european. They sign trade agreements to promise they will allow equal trade and then as a people simple ensure they never buy anything just sell their gunk ...so again ..another reason to boycott Korea and buy western/local if you can.

Agreed ... but I still really dig a rare rib-eye steak. I actually way prefer my beef freshly slaughtered from the farm where I know what it's been fed and can cut and prepare the meat to my own personal preferences

lol this has nothing to do with meat eaters vs vegeterians - and if they must kill a few cows to impress some dignitaries who I am sure would rather prefer something else then fine ... but if they want to open the game with a live cow kill then it is fusked up.

Also you will alienate thousands of christians who don't want to have some pagan ritual forced on them, we should give them reason to spend their cash not give them the slightest reason to protest anything.

That's me done - but I can guarantee that international tree huggers wil protest against this should they get wind of it

I love this idea.
This is Africa, and, the lowest port of Africa.

We should market just how damn barbaric it really is, and focus on extreme activities for our tourism marketing.

Some countries allow for festivals where people throw over-ripe tomatoes at each other, some countries let stampeding bulls chase people through the streets.

South Africa will be the country where you can go to a steak house, pick out your food, kill it yourself, and then eat it.

The trick is to make this activity only available once a year.
