I don't eat meat either but i see no problem with this, just because something is behind closed doors does not make it right does it daveza?

That kinda logic for me is rather silly, do what you like to animals as long as it is behind closed doors?

Blah this is not to impress people, it is the way things are done, why now is this a problem but every other day it is fine? suddenly the world cup rolls in and we must stop being who we are? Not that i am into the whole animal sacrifice but 40 million other people are.

I hear you and dont have a problem with it either - each to their own and all that, but there is a time and a place for everything, surely slaughtering a cow if it is to be done in public in front of unsuspecting visitors is not the best way for then to experience africa

Or at least give them the option to view it or not? Do the whole slaughter thing in a cordoned off area. Some tourists would like to "experience" this African ritual, others would not.

I spent a lot of time growing up on a farm, so I know the realities of the meat industries that the hypocrites dont think about.

I like meat, I understand how the circle of life and the food chain works and I have seen the reality of it. Perhaps I am just desensitized to the reality of meat production or something.

If you dont like the killing of cows I would suggest moving to India. In the real world we slaughter thousands of head of cattle daily. The average person doesnt see this and I guess imagine that their steaks and biltong that they eat were born that way.

AFAIK the animal gets killed quickly and eaten... if you wanna see the barbaric treatment of an animal you just have to go to Europe and watch the running of the bulls.

Agreed ... but I still really dig a rare rib-eye steak. I actually way prefer my beef freshly slaughtered from the farm where I know what it's been fed and can cut and prepare the meat to my own personal preferences

Ah, rib-eye is my favorite too! Can agree with you more... and my thinking is that its better to see and know the cow you're eating so you know that it lead a good life, with the right food, allowed run freely etc. and you know exactly how it was killed.

you are missing the point it has fusk all to do with killing of the cows - hell man if it was proven that killing cows will end crime- I would start the killing ( maybe )

It has to do with forcing localised culture on unsuspecting tourists who will take offense, and anyway when they built the stadiums they all ready made their sacrifices so no need to do it again?

It's not a question of not liking the killing of cows but one of making a public spectacle of it. I understand the need to slaughter animals for food but it doesn't need to be carried out in public.

Otherwise why not burn bodies in our back yard, take a dump at your restaurant table or have chickens beheaded and plucked at the Pick n Pay poultry counter.

I just think it's stupid to bring a primitive ritual into a 21st century event. The WC is for all of us South Africans, not just for the traditional leaders and their followers.

maybe those complaining think meat is manufactured at the butchery without actually harming any animals in the process.

I don't really buy that argument. I stay in a middle class area of the northern suburbs of CT and an African family slaughtered 15 sheep on their front yard the other day. Little kids don't like the sounds that sheep make when they are slowly slaughtered. I think that animals should only be slaughtered at an abattoir, not on the front gardens of residential properties or in public places.

lol maybe we are more tolerant on peoples belief's than we get credit for and if that is part of "their" culture I except it even though i may not like or agree with it but I will not be forced to partake in it and niether will the visitors it seems.

So either change the entry only to africans and kill as many cattle as you like or skip this k@ k idea and get on with trying to get people to actually show up
