Missing SAPO Parcels and Letters

Bought some stuff from Ebay, some of it came others not. Gonna give it some more time...

I have 2 packages that I ordered at the begging of the year off e-bay and haven't arrived. I just gave up hope of them ever showing up :(

Hi! I have a parcel coming via USPS from the USA. Its been in JHB International Parcels Customs since the 5th August according to the Tracking via the USPS website.

I have no idea who to phone about tracing it locally. Anyone know the International or Customs Number, please?

SAPO doesn't use the same tracking number as the USPS.
Call 0860 111 502, give them the USPS tracking number and they will give you a SAPO tracking number, then go to http://www.parceltrack.co.za/ and track your parcel.

Just picked up my USPS package.
Had to pay in R220 though, but its safe in my hands!!!

Hi thanks for the tip! I seem to have a different USPS number than the one that's required for SAPO to track my parcel. I'm stumped as to what to do next. :(

Something to further cheese you off. I'm in the UK on holiday. Ive ordered a few things from ebay/amazon - they were all delivered the next day!! (Normal post)

One of my wifi cameras have not arrived, I have a chinese tracking number, the item was on the plane on the 17/06/12 but the item still has not arrived in SA.

The plane must have crashed or took a detour through the Bermuda Triangle...

My stuff is on the same plane. :( how is it not in the country yet is my question. In the grey area at the airport no mans land, or at the post office not scanned in yet.
I checked the Chinese postal service and according to them it is at its destination.
:(

There is a big problem at the Jhb sorting office. The union will not allow CCTV in there and whenever the Post Office take it up with them, they threaten to go on strike.

The answer: Always insure it, the customer will moan when his parcel does not arrive, but at least you will get compensated. When we have a non-delivery after 21 days, we despatch a duplicate item and make the consignee sign a note that if the original arrives, he must return it (we pay the postage) or he is committing fraud. Have had 9 or 10 instances where the consignee tried to get away with a duplicate delivery by getting someone else to collect the parcel. Some Post Office counter clerks do not always look at IDs

You are not liable to pay unless it has been delivered to you and is in 100% condition.

I've got a similar thing going on I think...

Had stuff sent to be my Royal AirMail (so no tracking number)... was supposed to take 5 - 7 days to get to me... its now 21 days later and nothing.. and of course I can hunt it down :(

Was nervous after reading this thread since I just placed my first 4 orders with eBay.

But, they all arrived safely from California, China, Germany and Japan :D

The stuff I ordered came from Germany, and also untracked, not sure if airmail or not, but the last couple of things I ordered took an average of 3 weeks, and the longest was just over a month.

Ah then this gives me hope, my DealExtreme order was some 10 days later. I received a message from SAPO with reply "no record yet."

My worse case was 6 weeks, but that was the xmas period. The seller sent a replacement which arrived two weeks later, and I honored the payment for the replacement. Some sellers refuse to sell to Italy and Brazil, thankfully SA has slipped under their radar so far.

I ordered some audio equipment from the US a while ago.

I shipped it using Fed Ex. They contacted when they had problems with South African customs as I had to pay VAT and duties on my order. As soon as I paid them, I received my parcel within 3 days.

Possibly check with the courier that you are using to resolve the customs issue.

Good luck with Dealextreme and the Post Office. Half of all my orders never make it to me. Luckily Dealextreme is willing to send me a replacement order (although that happens after 2/3 months after I place my initial order as Dealextreme normally wants to wait to see if the order finally gets delivered to you). The post office employees always steals my stuff.

When I ordered from Delaextreme and got it posted to Australia whilst I was there. My order arrived within a week and that was normal postage. I wish they could fix the rampant theft at the Post Office!

I have been very lucky with the post office. All my orders from Amazon, ebay , and various book suppliers and clothing stores have all arrived. Sometimes i have to pay in, sometime not.

My missus has not been that lucky. She is British and gets sent clothing and gifts from family in the UK. A number of her parcels have gone missing. The worst example was when we received the first notification in the letter box and when i went to collect it , it had gone missing from the local post office. The post master was very apologetic and we got the forms from them for compensation but it was such a schlep cos we had to get hold of her 70 year old mom and get quotes for replacement value etc. We just gave up.

I've had several parcels go missing FWIW. Of course they weren't missing at the end, the delivery slips weren't delivered and the items were returned to OtherWorldComputing and Amazon. Since the payment was made through Amazon payments, at least I was refunded the full price including shipping in both cases.

FWIW you can track your parcel online using the foreign parcel number which can be registered mail or EMS through http://ems.sapo.co.za
You can see the parcel the moment it lands in South Africa.
A tip: if your status remains at "Record item customs information" for more than one day, your item is stuck at customs and you're gonna have to produce an invoice and pay them out.
