You love driving inefficient gas-guzzling CO2-blowing cars? Thats good to know.

No greater sound and feel than a 6 or 8 cylinder car

sorry for the revive mense > i am going to get a 1985 opel kadett 4 SPD gearbox 1.3 ..... its about 97% done on restorations :P

question is , unleaded or leaded ? when i started it today it smelt like unleaded but the old lady couldnt tell me the last time she filled up !!!! DANM

i see on the australian list posted , my cars not there ? so that means it needs leaded ???

but then the NAAMSA posts its recommended to use ULP ??? THIS DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE

i would rather believe the australian site than the sa one ... one can never know how far the stupidity draws in this country !

In 1985 ULP was not available in SA, but the European spec motors like yours were all running on ULP overseas.

There should be no problem running your car on ULP at all.

LOL, im going to try and convert it completely to vauxhall, the opel badges are so bloody COMMON !!! :D

did some more research on the petrol story, wheels24 reports that the opel 1985 should use LRP , any opel made after 1990 is compatible with ULP. This is such a hard decision, i want to protect the valves and engine for as long as possible and i know these additives you get from game or midas dont ever work ... or do they ? :wtf:

Certain additives do work. If you add a bottle of William Penn Upper Cylinder lubricant to each tank you won't have any hassle.

bwaa thats an extra R20-30 per tank :p i think, in the long run its worth it though

so its either use LRP or use unleaded with WP cylinder lubricant ?

can i not do the unleaded about once a month ? or will that %$^&$ with the engine ? im not trying to jippo but rather to find a balance, but if its either left or right id have to rather just do it one way and not mix and match things

Your biggest problem is burning valves - I would check with GM themselves (not some Dealer - contact GM in PE) and ask what you can get away with. I still think that your car will be OK with ULP - just don't thrash it, but you cannot do that with an Opel anyway!! :p

Hahahaha jaaaa ag wat its a 1.3 , they generally feel like a 1.1 to me lol. The old opels are like tanks that's why you can't thrash it :P my mom had a kadett back in the day and this guy hit her car with a speed, her car was fine with a small dent and a broken tail light but the other guys new nissan had a broken bumper and a bent hood haha !

So ill contact general motors in PE and take it from there :) I do trust your knowledge don't get me wrong, I just always do the homework based on a statement first.

You are right , germans used unleaded from 1970. The car was made in 85 ....

I need to know if this head or valves have been redone but this old hag doesn't know anything. I'm guessing it must be stock original... Won't know till I dive into it properly today !

Lol my ouma het n 1981 Ford Cortina wat sy vir my pa gegee het.

When I was younger she got rear ended by a Kia Picanto while I was in the car with her. Daai Kia se voorligte het gepop, die bumper was in sy moer en my ouma se boot het maar n duik in gehad.

lol ou karre was solid ek sê. But then again Kia se karre weeg like helfte wat n cortina doen.

This thread again? :D. I'm still finding LRP here and there.

Why would you rebuild a 1985 Opel Kaddett? I remember my mom had one when I was like 3 years old. She used Super. LRP should be fine.

ive scouted around durban now and almost all the stations still sell lrp here. went down the coast for that bike rally and there was tons of lrp everywhere , theres 30 other countries still using lrp because they are 3rd world :p

i would fit SA into the 2.8 world country category lol
