MMS to overtake SMS?

I have only used MMS like 3 times in my life. SMS will be greater for a long time to come.

SMS is easier for short messages, cheaper, and if you want to send images the MMS size is way too limiting. Bluetooth to nearby people, e-mail from my 6680 works better (Data Bundle - still expensive).

I wanted to send some pictures Xmas day when I was away but ended up sending them the next day, bout 10MB of images via e-mail, with cc to alot of other people.

Can we send MMS's to overseas subscribers?

Most south africans can not afford a sms. I do not see mms overtaking sms, though it might be interesting to see where this goes.

Most South Africans can afford a one-minute phone call at double the rate of an SMS?!

problem is sms's are to expensive too in addition to them being a more advanced tech and not all cellphones still in circulation by cell co's in SA support it. 2ndly in SA teleco's prefer to charge the masses alot with least usage rather than charge a little and get higher usage so would they really want to promote mms?

While they block me from sending MMS internationally [falling under the same roaming requirements needed to make an international phone call] and not SMS, no it won't win .

I actually wanted to send a voice MMS to someone in the UK...blocked!!

I've tried so many times doing the MMS thing, at first it was phone incompatibilities [on the recipient end], then it's settings [on my end and recipients end] and if that's not enough i make a movie clip [a bit hard to limit the size sometimes] and it's too big to MMS! [500k] and now i require roaming rights ! So i've finally given up , i can email from my phone just fine.

I had to resort to SMS and emailed the voice file...so screw MMS.

I'm able to make international calls however mms'ing still eludes me - probably because of the premiums they are able to charge for international sms'es.

Oh, i was just guessing. No idea what one need to MMS internationally. I actually tried to phone to the UK first..then got the message telling me i am not allowed...then i tried MMS...failed ..then finally i emailed [also via phone] and SMSed my friend in the UK to check email..problem solved.

With the EXACT amount of "button presses" as MMS i could email a text+voice clip from my phone. So i still believe MMS is going to be squashed by Internet-type services before it gets going [especially if we are getting new phones every 2 years]

Even less people have email on their phone setup than MMS

As MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) starts to gain momentum in the market, one has to wonder whether it will overtake SMS as the dominant messaging tool for cellphone users.

LOL ... MMS is mainly used for pr0n backgrounds and ringtones. and they cost a fortune. MMS wont overtake SMS.. especially with MXIT and similar technology

So what’s going to change things? Well according to Eddie Groenewald, CEO of Multimedia Solutions ( www.multimediasolutions.co.za ), MMS advertising will. Multimedia Solutions is the first company in South Africa to overcome the challenges of bulk MMS.

AHHHHH!! Money making SPAM!!

tried mms' ing the misses when I was in CT about a year ago only to find out that the service was not avaible, dissappointed to still hear that this is the case.
