I recently received a letter from multichoice informing me of an increase in their subscription charges. The letter has a breakdown of all the charges i am paying for as follows:

DSTV premium bouquet : R222.60
Mnet : R276.40

My question is, how does multichoice justify the subscription for Mnet? Why is it so much more expensive than dstv and it's a single channel? In my opinion that figure is ridiculous. And mnet isn't all that good anyway... I rarely watch it. The same movies get repeated a few times on the mnet movies channels and the tv series are repeated on mnet series. As for sports, they are generally simulcast on Supersport... Frankly i could live without mnet. Mnet is also a locally broadcast channel. How can it be more expensive than the dstv subscription which has a large selection of international as well as local channels. I doubt the mnet subscription is inclusive of mnet movies and mnet series because that is the fee to get mnet on its own without dstv...

Is it perhaps possible to take the dstv bouquet without Mnet?

You only discovering dstv is a rip off now ? lol :D

I am in no way a DSTV fan and had the same argument with them, this was their answer (ad-libbed):

The M-Net subscription does not just cover M-Net, but also, the series channel, movies as well as SuperSport and their is no way that you can cancel just the M-Net subscription. You can however split your M-Net signal from your DSTV signal and receive the M-Net subscription on a separate M-Net decoder and your DSTV subscription on a satellite decoder.

It sucks, I know. That is why I stopped paying these bloodsuckers any more of my hard earned cash.

I'm paying around R260 a month for MNET and the CSN channel via the old decoder.
It is a ripoff.

But they show ALL the rugby, most of the cricket and F1 (unless it's bible channel time :( )
I figure it's better than paying R550 a month for DSTV.

All I want is rugby, I watch nothing at all on MNET.

But if you take the mnet subscription on its own exclusive of dstv you're paying R276,40 just for mnet not the movies and series and sports channels. So how can they say that those channels are included in the mnet subscription. If they were then why are they not included when you sign up for mnet alone? They only included if you take the entire dstv package

Lol no i realized that long ago. What i didn't realize was that mnet constitutes a higher proportion of the dstv subscription fee than dstv itself.
