Isn't it just the amount per month you signed for, multiplied by the number of months remaining in your contract?

I take it this is a voice contract you're thinking of cancelling as you're concerned about keeping your number. Are you thinking of taking out a contract with another network, or moving to PAYG?

Good day,

Well it's a termination cost the amount of month's you have left and your handset as far as I can remember

So for me it will be R2500 for my data card plus R1888 (R118x16)... thats R4388. Its more cost effective to stick till the end my contract.

Luckily my other contract expires October 2007.

I have also been told that the cancellation cost is equal to the remaining months installments plus a pro-rata portion of the handset subsidy but I think this is a rip off. The fair cancellation cost should be the present value of the future monthly installments. Anymore and the network makes an undeserved profit.

In the past this result was easily obtained by just stopping using the contract and continuing to pay until normal cancellation date. However now with MNP that is no longer possible if you wish to retain your number.

well thinking of it, i think it could be more cost effective to just take a 2nd contract with the new provider?

If you want to carry your number over to the new network you will have to cancel your contract.

Why cancel the contract - you are still bound by your contract but you can port the number to a new contract and continue to pay the old contract saving the portion of the handset recovery fee.

I have a Nokia 6680 on a MyCall 100. Contract expires Jan 2008. To cancel my contract will cost me R3766. So guess what? I will have to stay a while longer. Saw The CellC add again last night. This time it was MTN on the receiving end. :D :D :D

Are you sure? Thought you had to keep the number linked to the contract till the contract expired.
