Mobile broadband deals compared

Mind boggles that someone at Vodacom must have looked at a similar table and gone: "Yip, looks right, lets launch this."

The only similar metholdology I can think of is a spammer sending millions of spams (read vodacom customers) in the hope that a few will be retarded enough to fall for it. :confused:
 
MTN only on new 24 month contracts

On MTN, these deals are only available on new 24 month contracts.

:mad: They are not for pre-paid customers.
:mad: They are not for exiting contract customers.
:mad: They are not for existing top-up customers.

The can't be added to existing packages, only new sim cards with new numbers.
Not consumer friendly or practical at all.

Kind of pointless, except to make MTN look OK in a MyBB comparison.

If only they would wake up to this, seriously who is signing up for a 24 month contract with anyone other than 8ta right now (R199 is not going to be beaten by anyone in 24 months, or it is at least worth the risk). Cell C now has 3G roaming on VC, so I cannot see the advantage in anything VC or MTN are offering on contract.

It really is a joke, hell why not try offer a 6 or 12 month contract, I might consider something like that and why on earth can you not add it to existing sims????

The 24 month packages are OK for new devices like tablets or data dongles.

They are not good for people with existing smartphones would like to add a 300MB-1GB data bundle to their existing phone contract.
I would sign the special for the 24 months, as long as it's a "bolt on", I don't need another SIM.

MTN "bolt on" rates:
  • MTN 75MB R50, R0.65/MB
  • MTN 300MB, R149, R0.50/MB
  • MTN 500MB, R189, R0.38/MB
  • MTN 1GB, R289, R0.29/MB
  • MTN 2GB, R389, R0.19/MB
with 30 day carry over (CPA anybody)

Which compared to the offers of
  • 500MB, R69, 13.8c/MB
  • 1GB, R99, 9.7c/MB
  • 2GB, R149, 7.3c/MB
Are much higher.

All we ask is that the promotions be made available to exiting phone contracts as "bold on".
 
I have a smart phone. I need a cell number and data on the phone, not interested in a modem as I can tether my phone to my laptop if I ever need to. Cell C is by far the best deal for that, 99c per second billing, R45 for 500MB data. I ported to cell c pre-paid 2 months ago. I was with vodacom for 12 years, by bill has come down from about R520 to R150 per month. Waiting for cell C to do a contract 2GB data for R99 and be able to use per second billing on calls for 99c per minute. The first operator that does it will cream the market.

But have you seen their latest contracts, not so cheap anymore. I'm moving away from CellC as they are more expensive than Vodacom on their new deals. Its a big pitty as I was actually going to move all my Vodacom contracts to CellC.

But at least their data offering is still the best.
 
My opinion, splitting by price bracket makes little sense... why? Cause it looks like CellC has no options between R100 and R199... when in fact their 2GB falls into the first category... > R100... just paints a very skewed picture! It would surely paint a clearer picture by splitting by data package size?? Like 500mb, 1GB, 2GB, 3GB, 5GB, 10GB...

Maybe if we repeat it often enough someone will get the message -we want 'bolt on' packages at the same rates (or better) as standalone contracts - why is this so difficult to understand and implement.

This time last year, CellC had a 120Gb prepaid offer for R 3999 (SIM only) for the year. This year the same data offering is over R 18000. When you ask them why such a big increase there is silence.
 
All I want to know is how much Vodacom paid you to write this ridiculous article.

The complaint is around the 24 month contract which nullifies the value.

You don't really bother to look further than the advertisements do you? Seriously, do a comparison of your calls and the cost on your VC contract vs the Cell C 99c per second billing option and see if they are still cheaper... You are making the fundamental mistake of note looking at the total true value proposition. For example the VC Topup per second contracts offer MUCH more value than the normal contracts, why, because the normal contracts charge you peak rate for all calls until you have used up all your minutes. Topup is about the same price if you only make peak calls, the minute you do any after hours or discounted calls it shifts dramatically.

You need to look at the real monthly spend for the same package. Cell C has a 200 minute, plus data and mms/sms package with an iphone 4Gs (32GB I think) for around R450 odd, see what VC charges you for the same deal... Then look at what you will pay for calls and data OOB.

Oh, and Cell C now has 3G roaming on their cheaper data rates.
