Mobile broadband pricing comparison

Haha what a joke. VoodooCon and MTN are price fixers all the way (349 rand per Gig? Is internet now regulated like petrol? lmfao)

The first table's heading is incorrect, it should be "2gig adhoc" not 1 gig contract.

Sainet Company Response

RPM , can you include other ISP offerings - this is not advertising but awareness making:

Sainet 1GB Bundle Price R249 - lowest price in the market
Sainet 2GB Bundle Price R369 - lowest price in the market

Out-of-bundle per MB R0.50
Bandwidth life span - data rollover - lifetime up to 100% of subscribed quota
Speeds 1.8 - 7.2 Mbps

Thank You
Marius

Unless Voda gets serious about competing soon, I'll be moving to Telkom as soon as my contract expires.

I am laughing all the way - these prices are horrific. They can easily introduce a flat rate all round of 5c/MB and none of this bundle shmundle nonsense. Just cut back on PR and spend more on infrastructure.

The prices are still a joke. I'm not touching any mobile broadband offerings until they drop the out of bundle rate to 10c per MiB or less. I'd rather go without Internet access.

I think the big problem the cellular SPs face is that the cheaper the price of bandwidth gets the more VOIP becomes feasible. They'll fiddle with their offerings as much as possible in order to protect their voice offerings.

I'm with you 100% on that.

But watch out, there is a whole bunch of we-like-to-pay-more-because-vodacom-is-a-porsche type people around here that will be on our case soon.

True - the way they are giving away free minutes at the most rediculous times just goes to show that their PR machine is way too active. They need to slash it and let their amazing offers do all the marketing and PR for them.

Only on the outside. They should stop wasting money on stupid ads. Best broadband for your rand? Not likely.

Can anyone still remember that horrific rat VodaCom had in yet another of their failed ad campaigns? :D

They really are spending way too much on marketing and PR instead of just lowering prices and let word of mouth do marketing for them.

If you lower it, they will come

The Vodacom Standard Packages are incorrect!!!!
1. There's NO DATA CARRY OVER
2. The Out-of-bundle RATES remains at R2 per MB

The reason why the Advanced packages are slightly expensive than the Standard ones is because of: 1) Carry Over, 2) The Out-of bundle rates remains the same as in-bundle, and 3)The 7.2 Max Speed

I stand to be corrected, but you can call 155 to confirm

Basically I think that their revised offer is simply a JOKE!!! RIP-OFF!!!

Agreed. How much advertising does SAINET do? They are the cheapest as far as I can tell. Undercover kinda deals:D

Actually, Telkom is cheaper than that. These telkom prices in the article include voice options. But seriously, who is going to use telkom as a cell provider when only JHB+PTA are covered? Taking telkoms 7.2Mbps service DATA ONLY the prices look like:

Name | Cost | Limit | Out of bundle per MB cost
Do on the move 500MB R149.00 500MB R0.30
Do on the move 1GB R219.00 1GB R0.30
Do on the move 2GB R349.00 2GB R0.30
Do on the move 3GB R489.00 3GB R0.30
Do on the move 10GB R1499.00 10GB R0.30

so the 2GB is R349MB, lower than Sainet 2GB Bundle Price R369, also telkoms out of bundle data is cheaper per MB

Telkom is the cheapest 3G 7.2MB provider, but the coverage is extremely limited.

A rollover is actually harder to implement than no rollover at all. Yet for stingy stealing networks like Vodacom (and the others) it is very nice to have rollover because they make a lot more money from it.
