Mobile broadband push

Hmm... wonder how long before the Service Providers jump for exclusivity rights in SA...

The GSM Association is not a money hungry American proprietor so I doubt they will engage in exclusivity practices to enrich only themselves.

The big question here is when is the price of mobile broadband going to come down to something acceptable like 5c or less per megabyte. That is the main stumble block I see here.

Well, does this mean that laptops will be issued with a built-in gsm modem, and that you just connect to the network of your choice depending on a SIM that is inserted? There is numerous laptops that are already sold as such in SA. LG have several models with a build-in gsm module. This is old news!, or should I refresh my browser?

Like you said, LG, it's not a universal thing among laptop manufacturer's, my Toshiba doesn't have a built in modem, except dialup ;)

I hear what you say. It is just the way that the article is wrote. It seems as if it is a "new" thing that will be available by the end of the year. Or even that all laptops will be issued with this by the the end of this year. That would be a bit wild to say. WIFI is only about now becoming a standard feature. On the other hand, it would be nice to see the dailup modem being replaced by something more useful and truly mobile!
