Mobile Connect Lite Usage

The stock we have here and the stock we get(and have gotten for the last month or 3) all have VMCLite version 1.x.x.x. The only difference it has is that the new stock are already Vista ready(firmware update already done). Sometimes i get a bit frustrated becoz i get customers who called 155 with a problem, and 155 telling them to get the firmware upgraded... shouldnt they know that its already Vista Capable?? Dedicated Data Call Centre means nothing if the people who work their dont know anything

What i then do is i upgrade the customers who purchase new modems to Mobile Partner.

P.S. 155 doesnt even know about Mobile Partner either

@v3g. If this is true it definitely smells like problems.

They arent meant to know what software THEIR E220 is capable of using and be able to offer support for it but they ARE meant to know how iBurst works and offer support for it???? That doesnt make snese to me

What does Iburst have to do with the current discussion ??

Vodacom support has been trained on how to use the Vodafone Mobile Connect Lite software and not the Huawei Mobile Partner software. IMO If your customers phone Customercare and give them the HMP software version they will not support it. The same goes for Gingg's E620 Tool.

iBurst has nothing to do with this discussion. What i'm trying to point out is that the Call Centre should know how to give support to Vodacom's product the Huawei E220 USB Modem, not JUST ONE version of the Software that the modem supports. Like i said they can give support for iBusrt(which is indirectly not even thier product but they sell it, but they cant give proper support for their own product.

There will be more future updates to the software. And certain people will want to update them. What i'm saying is that the call centre should be prepared for it, wether or not its their software or not. Its still their product.

Ginggs application is understandable as it is his own personal project. The Huawei software on the other hand is straight from the Manufacturer, a.k.a. the Huawei E220 USB Modem.

I agree with Csnoopy's interpretation here: out of the many forumites that have used VMC-Lite with their E220, and that have also used the Huawei dashboard s/w - HMC&|HMP, the trend amongst forumites seems to be a preference towards HMC&|HMP and a thumbs down for VMC-Lite; having said that, the official dashboard s/w for the E220, which is supported by Vodacom and Vodafone, is VMC-Lite - it is what the E220 modems are distributed with, so as far as Vodacom's support channels are concerned, HMC and HMP do not exist from a support point of view.

The E220 is supplied by Vodafone and consequently Vodacom, as a branded modem, and the support channels are setup for the branded version of the modem, not the generic E220 and s/w.

@Iam3G. I suggest you call 155 & email customercare and tell them that you have a problem with HMC version xx or HMP version xx and see what they tell you. These are Vodafone branded E220 modems therefore no Huawei downloads on Vodacom download pages. Try and get support from Huawei direct, I and many others have tried and they just tell you to go back to your provider because you are not a Partner. You are doing good by providing a solution to the customer but is it Vodacom approved? Vodacom will not release a software package if it has not been via there own quality control processes. If you as a Vodacom representative know and have problems with there products you should and have the contacts to report back to them so they can correct the problems. Using the Forum by all means it helps us all but VC should know about there product flaws.

Isnt that what v3g is on this forum for? To help us? To see all the flaws of their product and report back to his superiors?

P.S. I understand what you and IC are saying.

no offense Cs, but I work for a company who writes machine vision software for multinationals, and if we EVER released, demo'd or tried to sell a piece of code as buggy as VMC-Lite we'd all be looking for new jobs.

With the Lite software I had constant disconnects and "modem not configured properly" - forcing me to plug it out, re-enter the pin, wait 3 minutes while it initializes, rince & repeat.

No issues with the new Mobile Partner dashboard.

How is that not lack of quality control?

You took the words right out of my mouth f4llen. That's another part of the point i was trying to point out, but couldnt find the words for it. Its like Vodacom would release inferior software to their customers just becoz they can, and just forget about customer satisfaction.

Its like Vodacom WELCOMES complaints

I think the problem is that Vodafone likes to have everything branded, and since Vodafone is a huge multinational, it can negotiate bulk pricing, and Vodacom basically has to take what it gets from Vodafone - branding down to the firmware level.

We know that v3g has repeatedly communicated the issues with Vodafone Mobile Connect, back to Vodafone, but for whatever reason, Vodafone seems to be very slow to resolve the issues.

The really nice thing about the E220, is that there is alternative dashboard s/w that one can use with the E220 - regardless of whether Vodacom or Vodafone support this - the solution is simple for those of us here that know better - just use HMC or HMP instead of VMC-Lite.

I just realised something...

I will be the one(only one) that has to maintain and give support for the software i loaded for my clients(HMP), as Vodacom will just brush of their paying customers just becoz the software hasnt been tested and approved and becoz the call centre hasnt been trained on it.

Oh well. Just when i think the new Software will make my work easier, another curve ball comes my way **deep sigh**

@Iam3g. The curve ball is really what I was warning you about. You have probably saved a lot of people & Vodacom a lot frustrations. But there is a backdoor if you do get problems and the E220 has to go back for repairs. Make sure you have the latest E220 software downloaded from Vodacom so that you can resflash the modem sofware to a version of Vodafone. I dont know what Vodacom's techs will do if they find other software than VMC on the modems.

@f4llen Quality control. Not an easy one to do in today's open design on hardware systems. They probably get tested on the perfect systems inhouse at Vodafone. As ic had said they get the products from Vodafone with or for the modems which should indicate that the QC has already been done?. v3g Has never said don't use the Huwaei products but he has said please report to 155 & customercare via email, which gives him the amonition to use. He has previously smacked me on the fingers because I had said don't use VMC it is no good. They dont have the stats to prove it or they dont want to admit it. I always say to people help me so I can help you. You dont go to the doctor & say I am sick and you dont tell him where why and what etc. etc.

Fortunately for all of us and others that have viewed these E220 threads, have used the Huawei software and have been happy chappies since. I have read of one person that has changed back to VMC??.

I wonder how the MTN guys are doing with their E220's & software??

Will keep that in mind.

The single most worst thing i hate about my job(Dont get me wrong, i love this job) is that i am the "First line of defense" for Vodacom. Which means customers attack me first with their frustrations about Vodacom's poor service. And i do try my best to keep up Vodacom's "good" name, or what's left of it, eventhough sometimes i agree with the customers and understand their frustration.

Shame poor you the loan ranger the first line of defense against the world if you felt as passionately about the name you defend you wouldn't be here looking for the answers.

By the way what firm ver are you running and what VMC ver are you running.

Firmware version for Vista. HMP software.

Ja, poor me. By the way, just to correct you there... i dont feel as passionatley about the name. I'm objective towards Vodacom. They arent that bad, but they arent all that good either. And yes, i am here looking for answers, as i am no genius and i dont know everything.

Is it only myself that is using the full VMC 9.2.1.6545 instead of VMC Lite?

They look exactly the same, except with the full software I can force 3G Only on the USB modem.

:L:

This is how i see things...

We have 4 different versions of software, namely:

- Vodafone Mobile Connect

- Vodafone Mobile Connect Lite

- Huawei Mobile Connect

- Huawei Mobile Partner

Vodafone Mobile Connect should be primarily used with the Data Cards. Yes, the E220 works with it, and some of you do use VMC with your USB modems, but i as a 3G Support Specialist wouldnt recommend it.

Vodafone Mobile Connect Lite is the software(scaled down version of VMC) that comes with the E220. Its too unstable and i wouldnt recommend it.

Huawei Mobile Connect. The Software that comes with the Huawei branded E220. Very reliable and stable Software. Would reccomend this for use with the E220.

Huawei Mobile Partner. Brilliant Software. Very Reliable, Stable and User Friendly. All of us E220 users should actually be using it.

Anyone care to comment? Csnoopy?

You have just echoed what I already had said somewhere else.

:) :D
