Mobile Handsets: What do the experts use?

good idea (what better insight than asking the boys who know), and good timing with this article, thanks. i've been trying to figure out which phone to get next - the N95 seems too much almost, and the term 'sluggish' makes me think it's the Nokia 6600 all over again.

cnet offers pretty good mobile reviews:

N95: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,39030107,49288842,00.htm

N6300: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,39030107,49288842,00.htm (I really like this one)

HTC... seems like the industry boys like these phones, not the 1st time that 'insider' info pointed them out to me... ;)

Lol!!! I have good reason to believe more than one of them is not telling the truth!

Nokia N95 is a bit expensive, not sure if the extra money you pay is worth it.

Also heard good things about HTC, unfortunately their latest press launch, where we would've been able to test the new phone was at 18h00 in Kyalami and just couldn't face the traffic that day so I haven't actually seen one :-)

Mmmm the phones nothing special and neither was WM6 or the prawns for that matter!!!:D

Cool article, it made a nice change reading something less gloomy and depressing than usual. Not that the I blame myadsl for the pathetic telecoms environment...

Interesting read

My house mate just got himself the N95, and if you're in the market for a GPS device as well as a phone it seems like a great way to go. He paid in R2500 on a Vodacom Talk 120 contract, which is really not that terrible, considering he was planning on buying a gps device anyway.

The interface can be a bit laggy at times, but other than that it's a great phone. The gps is what really does it for me...

Showing the Apple loyalty

Seligmann was Apple's marketing director here if I remember correctly, so he's showing his colours.

However, word on the street is that the iPhone will not be released in SA, nor will it one be able to buy it from overseas and stick a SIM in because it will not be approved by the networks...

Hmm.. only one mention of SE, they're missing out =D

I counted 5:)

What is this sup****ed to mean?

“I would love the iPhone as I am from Sandton, but I would settle for the HTC Advantage X7501, I have played with a demo and yes, it's large but in the Tech world, size does count,” said Smith.

What does the Iphone have to do with Sandton?

The iphone is going to be a fashion accessory that people own for its looks, rather than its technical capabilities. The lack of HSDPA being a good example.

Hence its natural habitat will be Sandton :P

I do think the iPhone GUI is going to lead the way.

Also, research shows that people want location based services and the new GPS phones like the N95 will be leading the way here.

I have a personal hang up with GPS as my better half keeps on threatening to replace me with one of these gadgets if I keep getting us lost :D ... but on a more serious note my concern with the N95 GPS functionality is that it eats up battery life.

Interesting!!!!

But then these guys have not seen my TyTN running WM6:D WM6 is much quicker than WM5 with less bugs.

BTW. The new kid on the block to beat will be the HTC "Kaiser".
Should be released here in a couple of months, or I will import.

Edit: The Kaiser is a TyTN running on WM6, 2.8mp camera, 3G, HSDPA (Max Download 3.6mb/s
