Does anyone here have a contact for a trustworthy Mechanic?

I have a Hyundai i10 and the Fan-belt broke off due to age and it not being replaced in ages.

I have a replacement and did all the steps in this video: How to change belts on a Hyundai i10

I got the nuts loose but the alternator won't move and I am struggling to get the new belt on.

Does anyone know why? or have a good contact?

I am sure you missing something minor, the top screw is the tensioning one, you still have to loosen the other screw holding the alternator in place.

Both of those have been loosend in a similar fashion as in the video, but it still wont budge?

Both of these where loose. But nothing happened. the big pulley did not move and I could not get the new belt over.

Are you sure it is the alternator belt you are doing? That looks like an aircon compressor, how many belts does you car have? One long windy one or two?

Okay, I could only now watch the video as my internet is slow. The guy is not covering all the steps, can you account for all the bolts holding that compressor in place?loosening only the top one is not going to work, you need to loosen another one, probably at the bottom to allow the compressor to swivel.

Another thing to note, besides the compressor what else is that belt driving? If it is only the compressor you can live without the aircon until you make a plan to fit the belt.

I am not sure if I am missing a step, but I did both nuts as in the video and loosen in the same way. The big pulley is not moving at all. It did not look like anything moved when I loosened those nuts not even after I janked on it a bit.

I think that belt is for the water cooling.

For the water pump

Okay let's do it like this, Just forget about the video for a minute.

1. What is supposed to come loose for the belt to come off, is it the alternator or the compressor?

2. Can you identify all the bolts holding the compressor/alternator in place? Besides the top adjustment bolts there must be other bolt/s that must be loose.

1. No Idea. I googled the video to see. so I am not even sure what that part does.

2. I have no idea what else needs to come loose in order for the pulley to move.

Okay, maybe you really need a mechanic to sort you out. Hopefully someone has a referral. I used some mobile service before but they send different people, I was just lucky to get a cool guy who advised me on a lot of things.

I can't find the e mail now but ithink it was these guys https://themobilemechanic.co.za/

Thank you Champ. :)

You would need to be able to describe you problem clearly so that the guy comes prepared and you also save yourself from being scammed. I was changing a water pump so I was clear from the onset that I don't need them to diagnose anything for me, just change the water pump, they gave me a quote, I accepted, guy pitched up an hour later and got the job done.

In your case you should be clear which belt needs to be changed, be properly descriptive, fan belt is no longer applicable these days, the fans are electrically driven.

You say the pulley is not turning, it might be seized and the belt was damaged by abrasion. Make sure that you
get a mechanic and let him diagnose the problem.

He said it is not moving, I assumed that he is talking about the whole compressor, the pulley not turing could explain the snapped belt.

The pulley is turning when I turn it manually. The problem is moving it closer so that I can get the fanbelt over it
