Mobile Mechanic needed - i10

Difficult to say without seeing precisely what is the problem.
1. Is it the correct belt?
2. Is there another item, like alternator or idler pulley, that can be slacked to give additional play?

1. 100% sure it is the correct belt
2. I don't think so. The pulley just looks a bit dirty but everything else looks fine.

Also the car can start up and the temperature gauge is not over heating.

OK a bit far, the compressor will have some very tricky bolts at the bottom that you have to loosen, most times it is worth the effort of taking the right front wheel off and removing the splash cover to be able to see them or get to them.
Information and pictures online seem a bit scarce.

That picture looks rather bad though, is that steam? or the belt burning itself off?

And the linked video is certainly not showing everything( although I have not watched it end to end).

Looking through the pictures again, that is your power steering pump if I am not completely wrong. If you see on this one that has been removed there is a single big bolt( most likely with a nut) at the bottom that the whole pump pivots on, this has to be loosened( and obviously tightened again)

Goodness can not visualize what I am reading here.

I am going to try again tomorrow.

Otherwise call a mechanic. Just really hope I do not get screwed over.

Can you see how many pulleys does the belt go over, I asked the question before because if the belt is only going from crank to compressor you could just ignore it and happily drive the car without issues except for the aircon.

There is two pulleys. Does it not feed water to the radiator?

We are now making very good progress. All pulleys feed from a central point, the crankshaft. If it has only two pulleys then it means it is the crankshaft pulley and the compressor, if my assumption is correct based on the info you have given me the car can still function perfectly without the aircon.

How many pulleys are on the good belt?

If by good belt you mean the one closest to the engine, I think it is 3?

But this is definitely the fan belt? Are you saying if I drive without the aircon on that it will be fine and won't overheat?

I cannot find the diagram for the i10, but let's say it looks like this, the pulley at the bottom is the crankshaft, it is the one that is spinning and all pulleys feed from it. Suppose we say belt 2 is the one that is broken and the pulley it's driving is the aircon. It will have no effect on the functioning of the car since the other belt is still functioning, the water pump, alternator and if applicable, the power steering will still work.

Refer to the diagram I posted and confirm for me, I need assurances from you because I don't want to give you advice that would end up damaging your engine.

1. Referring to the belt diagram does the broken belt connect the bottom pulley and the aircon compressor?

2. The three pulleys on the other belt, are you counting,

1. The pulley at the bottom, (it will be like a 2 in 1 type of pulley)
2. The alternator?
3. Water pump?

It is okay if you can't identify the water pump but surely you can identify the alternator and the bottom pulley.

3. Is your car power steering electrical or hydraulic? Hydraulic is when there is a reservoir where you pour hydraulic oil.

Does anyone here have a contact for a trustworthy Mechanic?

I have a Hyundai i10 and the Fan-belt broke off due to age and it not being replaced in ages.

I have a replacement and did all the steps in this video: How to change belts on a Hyundai i10

I got the nuts loose but the alternator won't move and I am struggling to get the new belt on.

Does anyone know why? or have a good contact?
Hi, hope you come right with the repair.

At what mileage did your fan belt snap?

It snapped at arounf 120km.

This thing looks like it has not been replaced in over 100km.

So I had a Mechanic have a look at it.

The Air-con Belt was removed but the air-con pump is faulty. it made the entire engine shake like crazy and I smelt this burning rubber again. Any idea what it would cost to repair?

You mean the aircon belt was replaced?

Perhaps phone Hyundai or google the price of the aircon compressor, it will give you an idea. There are also auto aircon places around.

Most importantly, is it possible to bypass the aircon?
