Mobile Mechanic needed - i10

You mean the aircon belt was replaced?

Perhaps phone Hyundai or google the price of the aircon compressor, it will give you an idea. There are also auto aircon places around.

Most importantly, is it possible to bypass the aircon?
Sorry for the late reply. So it is possible to by pass.

What I do not understand is why does the engine shake like crazy when I drive with it on.

I got mobile Mechanic to replace the belt. The giys name is Lyle. Really nice oke.

The compressor could be faulty. How does your engine sound without the compressor? does it have the usual power?

Does it happen when the car is idling or only when it's driven?

The car works fine when the AC is switched off

But why does it have an effect on the engine.

Is the pulley spinning freely on the compressor? It could be that the compressor clutch mechanism is faulty.

The pulley is free spinning when the aircon is off, when you switch the aircon on the clutch engages, that's when you hear that momentary hesitation when you switch the aircon on.

The clutch works in a similar manner to your car's clutch, have you heard how your car vibrates when you are pulling of without fully engaging the clutch? I think something similar is happening with your compressor clutch.

It could be that aircon pump clutch is permanently engaged, or aircon pump is semi seized

Then there is something wrong with the compressor or (small chance) with something else in the air con system.
Is the compressor not perhaps loose?

So it is the bearings on the compressor that went. Does R19k sound right to fix this? That's Kak expensive.

These people always try to take advantage of you. I am based in Randburg. I saw someone sell one for R2500 on Gumtree that looked brand new. Anyone know of someone who is trustworthy who can help out?

For an Aircon repair in Randburg I used to go to Polo Auto Air. Though I've not had one done in 6 years.

Just get a couple of quotes first, before you explore other options.
Who are the con artists who quoted you that ridiculous amount?

This was Hyundai Strijdom Park. a refurbished one would be R8k

Fixing bearing costs R19k but the whole refurbished aircon is R8k?

Anyway, Google aircon places around Randburg and go the to get a quote, there was a Bosch on Republic, just before Waterfront coming from Randburg side that did aircon service, maybe check them as well.
