Mobile navigation app comparison

I stay away from Waze just because it loves taking me on the kakkest routes possible. It just loves the JHB CBD
Yup - the twisty winding routes it suggests has me driving all over the place instead of just taking me straight.

And of course google maps is much better:

I use Waze, primarily because it has a speedometer and the faster rerouting. On IOS, I can't get a speedometer on Google Maps (Unless someone has a way I haven't tried yet).

In my case google maps is a bit better than Waze in terms of horrible routes, hence my comment. Can be different for other people/areas.

I am also quite dependent on the speedometer function. Waze, it is. Bow at me, as I am Waze Royalty...

Sour grapes?
Despite initial flaws, Apple Maps rapidly began displacing Google Maps on iOS. It also enabled Apple to launch CarPlay (centered around Maps navigation) a year ahead of Google's own automotive support for Android. Suddenly Google's solid 7 year lead in mapping didn't seem to be helping the company at all. Apple's being behind again looks like an advantage more than a detriment. It is as if Apple gives everyone else an opportunity to fail to set a baseline for it to exceed.

Have actually started using Apple Maps for my local trips around town. Waze still for anything that has me on the freeway for longer than 20min though.

It’s actually pretty decent. Very little on the UI to distract you, just wish their “Add Stop” functionality worked a bit differently but overall happy.

Option B - use a dedicated Garmin GPS instead - it has free lifetime Map Updates, a speedometer display, fastest route or shortest route planning options, traffic alerts for sharp curves, speed changes, school zones and more, and provides real-time services such as live traffic and weather.

You still stuck in 2003?
