Mobile subscriber numbers compared – Vodacom versus MTN

MTN recently published its financial results for the year ended 31 December 2020, showing steady subscriber growth in South Africa.

The mobile network remains a top-two operator and is well ahead of Telkom and Cell C.

It falls behind Vodacom in the number of total subscribers, but it has held the title of the best network in South Africa for the past three years – making it a competitive option considering its similar data and contract pricing.

R1 a month per Subscriber fixed debit as "Digital Media Broadcast Tax"

Nobody needs to pay TV Licences.

Everybody pays same which is affordable.

Our Government fails again.

To be honest. One of the main reasons of Vodacom still having far more subscribers is because of MTN not spending enough on their backup battery systems.

Therefore, when it's loadshedding, MTN customers have Vodacom as backup. Even MTN provides Vodacom packages to their support team because no MTN customer service agent can work from home when MTN is loadshedding

I am not joking. MTN did provide vodacom packages to their service agents.

Meaning they admit their network is useless during loadshedding

MTN spending way more than Vodacom with their capex budget but not maintaining the batteries is just pathetic

This is a friendly warning.

Like in the early days of Uber taking over Taxi business.
Airbnb taking over guesthouses.

If our local businesses can't keep up with the changes and maintenances needed to provide reliable, cost effective service delivery then it's easy for an international company to take over.

MTN - SpaceX Starlink is coming, brace yourselves
