MTN has it currently in conjunction with Multichoice. However you need a TV SIM. AFAIK it's only given with the purchase of the Samsung DVB-H phone.

Do you get coverage wherever there's MTN coverage?

DVB-H doesn't work off the cell network, it has it's own transmitters AFAIK.

Thats what I thought, just wondering what sort of coverage it had, if it was similar to the almost blanket cell coverage or only in major cities etc.

too bad we don't have proper affordable broadband in SA, otherwise we could have just used slingbox to broadcast to any windows mobile phone.

The current DVB-H network is extremely small and even in most big cities very patchy. It's obviously still early days and will greatly expand in the future.

The quality is extremely good though, much better than streaming to a normal phone over IP.

What's the range of a DVB-H transmitter? It should be more than that of the average cell tower?

Btw, is there one DVB-H network or are the cell networks each rolling out their own networks?

I am still wondering why the heck would anyone be interested to watch TV on such a silly little screen!  There is not even anything to watch on a BIG screen let alone a minute screen:confused:

It really makes me wonder.

The other day I read somewhere that they say advertising SMSs would be more common now that mobile TV is not taking off the ground. They though they would generate revenue through ads. Interesting!!

Just my 2c worth.

Maybe the Rugby world cup @ work.

The Cricket world cup @ work.

The Super 14 @ work.

I watched Tv on a Sagem My *something* last year July when Voda launched it, the clarity is unbelievable, and is a worthwhile feature IMO.
