Morning,

Has anyone used money smart?

what are your experiences with the website?

if you know any other budgetting software (free if possible), please do list it here

Thanx

I have used Homebank, also free but for use offline. You import banking statements manually (meaning you use bank statements you manually downloaded) into a 'wallet', every month or so, and it detects duplicate transactions, and automatically categorizes transactions based on how you set it up (by using keywords in transaction description).

Should be working with all banks which are able to export statements in the 'quicken' format (*.qif).

You can setup budgets, see trend lines and statistics, use multiple accounts in a 'wallet', manually add transactions etc.

Here is the link: http://homebank.free.fr

I have not used moneysmart, but it looks promising. For me, anything that 'logs' into my banking account to retrieve transactions is no kosher, especially if the bank could not provide read only access. For example, 22seven http://mybroadband.co.za/news/business/49833-22seven-will-be-blocked-again-absa.html

I've used moneysmart from earlier days, when they still called it BSAVI.

It doesn't hook into your bank account. You can download your bank statements in *.csv format and upload these statements to moneysmart. The website will then assist you to categorize your transactions and provides reporting on it.
You can also setup goals and budgets.

The only think that is lacking, is their reporting. I feel it can do with more detail reporting, esp. for my needs.
I contacted them about this, and the CEO dude says they the working on it.

For the BETA system, it is really good and stable. You should give it a try. It is free.

There's a good android app called expense manager.
