Thanks for all the info, it seems thats the 2232gw will end up being the way to go. That being said, it would be nice to get a look at one of those 8000 contrast ratio lg's though.

Will have to keep looking.

My intent with all of this is to build a decent hackintosh. I know the real thing may be better, but i think we can all agree that you dont get much for 20 000 with the imac. The weak rand as well as core's business practices just doesnt make the real thing that much better to a well designed hackintosh, if you take price difference into consideration.

For the saving of a couple grand (read 5 to 10 depending on what compromises are made), im perfectly willing to jump through some hoops occasionaly.

A hackintosh's is becoming more and more of a viable alternative it seems. Especially when parts are chosen carefully.

Mac mini?

It seems to be quite new screen. Reviews should follow shortly. Sybaritic sellt he 2232gw for around 3100 if i remeber correctly, so the lg isnt much more. Just need to find a better price.

For the same money u can have a full and much faster system, as well as the added advantage of being able to upgrade, Or run throw in a 8800 gt for gaming.

OK, for the latest gaming,
U don't want a mac then.

I got the 24" iMac, can run Doom3 and Far Cry with all the bells and whistles.
But Crysis and other fps games in the last 2 years won't run that great.
But then I'm happy to be a few years behind, works out cheaper.

I can pick up 2232GW for just over R2600. So you can see the price differences.

The thing worried me is they use TN panel and I heard it's not as good as the Toshiba and Sharp ones, transition in colour and contrast is not that good.

sybartic have a 300 difference betweent he samsung and lg. With that as a comparison, it should be possible to get the lg for around 2900.

Ill wait for a review, maybe its worth the extra money. Maybe, maybe not.

Interstingly, the new rectron pricelist for today has the lg W2242S-BF (8000 :1 contrast ratio) for 1995 ex vat. Looks like there might have been a pricedrop on this model. Most retailers sell this for about R3100.

Try contacting Bethesda in Pretoria. They are the exclusive importers of LG in South Africa.

I checked their site last week and no 22' LG listed. Maybe they don't list everything on their website.

Called PC International today (R2620 incl VAT for 2232GW), they don't have LG 22' in stock currently (Sale can't confirm on model, eg 2242 or 2252).....Myself and friend will wait and see.

What does Dynamic Contrast mean, is 10000:1 Dynamic Contrast better than 3000:1 standard contrast ?
