Monitors 27"

- high resolution 1920x1200 on linux using avi cable (1920x1080 on windows.)

How does this work?

Im scared 32" is gonna be too big??? if I go TV then what about the response times???

@Steve-rsa:
Single-Link DVI is limited to 1,920 Ă— 1,200 @ 60 Hz with CVT-RB blanking *
and Dual-Link DVI is limited to 2,560 Ă— 1,600 @ 60 Hz with CVT-RB blanking *
* Copied from Wikipedia

So there is possibly a display driver fault that your Windows doesn't give you the 1920x1200 option.

@skusku:
I have a 30" Dell IPS panel and for playing games (BF:BC2 & CoD:BO) it is fine, but it is actually too big if you want to play seriously. Reading forums is a bit annoying on a 30" screen (2560x1600 resolution), unless I split the screen in 2 columns :)
I won't recommend a TN panel for anything above 23", unless you're going for a TV where you're going to sit far away.

Pada, thnx for the info. I have seen a 27" from my friend just sunday. He got the P2770H. but regarding size, I think 27 is max I should get.

27" is dead.

32" LCD TV is the way forward.

There are just so many reasons, mainly IPS/PVA panel.

You will never go back to TN panels, guaranteed.

Hehe, I don't think the people are ready PP :)

Things I hear the most:
1. 32" Is too big!
2. Response rate to slow to play games seriously??
Now:
3. Reading forums is irritating? Pada that's cos your screen has a massive res, ..so don't full-screen it!? Problem solved.

I'm pretty sure most people will be converted once they actually get the opportunity to test it out with the appropriate model (setup correctly).

I would never go back to either one of the P2770H's I had (AWful viewing angles, less than desirable backlight uniformity, colours don't hold a candle to IPS/PVA), which I tried out as PC monitor and SD-TV.

I'm using THAT VERY LCD TV as a gaming screen and it works like a bomb!

Got it from Hifi Corp for R3299.00

Surely not?
Isn't it so big that your eyes strain and you have to sit way way back?
Surely the input-lag/response rate makes gaming impossible?

Dang that's a good price, wasn't aware HiFi was undercutting Game by R200 ront.

I sit back a little but no strain. Been playing Splinter Cell: Conviction on it. The combo of the 32" and the XBox Wireless controller make PC gaming awesomesauce.

The TV was listed for R3499.00 - I'd hit my day limit on transfers and had exactly R3300.00 on my card. The manager gave me a discount. Hifi Corp Centurion lake.

Then came the headache with my TV license being a year behind...

If you are waiting for cheaper 120hz+ screens (very understandable for gaming) then you may just want to buy a cheaper smaller screen in the meantime. You can then use that as a secondary screen or for another PC.

I would recommend either the Dell U2311 23" monitor, given the price that you can get it at here (I would chat to P924, though, since he is the only person who seems to have used that place, and also bought that exact monitor) or, if you want a smaller gaming screen that you would be able to transport to lans more easily, you can get the Samsung 2233RZ 22", which is currently one of the best gaming screens and is only let down by its 1680x1050 resolution.

I'll second the XBox Wireless controller! Love it for certain games..

Hm, I had no prob paying my TV license at Game, R250 for the year, used my drivers, simple, rustic ye.

Hmmm...TV License...have a valid one, but I barely ever watch live TV anymore.
Big computer screen sorts everything out!

There are now taxes on all PC monitors that equalise the situation of having to buy a TV license.

How big is your PC screen, brand, model, panel, age, res?

Bit of a trite response.

If you're lucky you might find a P2770 somewhere for cheap, read about people still finding them in some retail stores like Makro. Got one online some time ago for about R2400. But the price fixing buttheads seems to be cranking up the price for newer monitors.

27 is great and personally don't need anything bigger, though I wouldn't bother with anything over 2ms or 3D.

Hmmm .... this is good to know . Shweeeet !

BTW , I use Sammy P2770H atm that's more than good enough for me . I do think their contrast ratio is seriously over-rated though ( 70 000:1 ) . I don't think it does that ratio .

Dynamic contrast ratio.

Basically sacrificing detail for deeper blacks/brighter whites.
