Monster energy drinks

I can only share my experience, although it was with Play energy drink - the biggest cans

Last year this time I was smashing one of the big Play's every morning on my way to work for a month. At the end of June 2013 I had a pain in my left leg. I was referred for a scan which confirmed a blood clot in the leg known as a DVT or Deep Vein Thrombosis. I spent a week in hospital with the doc and nurses trying to get my "thick" blood under control and to prevent the clot from breaking off and going through my heart and lungs. I also missed my daughters 2nd birthday party and birthday.

There has been research / articles about Red Bull and other associated energy drinks making heavy users' blood more sticky which can cause internal clotting. I am convinced this is what happened to me as I am a very active person.

I will never touch an energy drink again out of fear...

Did you exercise at all at that time? Sounds circumstantial.

Yeah likely unconnected.

Pretty sure a kid died from drinking too much monster recently...was a ridiculous amount of cans though.

I prefer coffee...much cheaper. Though I'd love to try this:

Apparently it results in a "calmer" focus than coffee.

Drank this stuff every day for six months last year. Honestly, it did nothing for me, or to me. Only thing it did succeed with was keeping me awake, as it really started getting expensive.

No, it was during my gym off season. I agree with you but it was the only thing I was eating/drinking differently at the time of my incident.

At the one MyBB conference I attended, attendees received a can of Red Bull (in mufti) amongst others.

I took it home. Opened it, and dumped the contents down the toilet (after smelling it). Disgusting. My SO agreed with me, it smelt utterly disgusting.

The only energy boost I had was those Fast Forward chocolates, but that is yonkers ago.

From my POV, if you need to consume these on a daily basis just to get going, then you either aren't getting enough sleep or that your diet is not correct. If fatigue is persistent, then go to a doctor and get blood tests done to determine the cause, trying to mask fatigue symptoms by drinking these **** energy drinks is a very, very stupid idea.

There's just too many unknowns regarding these energy drinks, and because of that, I'll leave them well alone.

In all seriousness...

I drink these things like water. Everyone is complaining it can't be good for you. Is it really that bad? Let's say on average 1 a day? I don't drink coffee like other people do. But I love drinking Monster in the morning. My poison is the Khaos one (Juice). Some days I have 2 cans through the course of the day.

They that bad for you? Worse than coffee?

IMHO, energy drinks are just placebo, its in your mind that they give you energy.

Agree with The Lib.

...if you're self-medicating with any drug, it's worth investigating what the underlying malady is... You might be using the wrong medicine.

I like them, best of the red bull type drinks. I know the guys who bring them in so get quite a few freebies :D

I am hypersensitive to caffeine and can drink one without issue, if I have a 2nd then I start feeling a bit weird (2 is a litre though!) Heart pulpetations and dizzyness.

Also, do not drink any of these high caffeine content drinks when dehydrated!

Play is SIFF - Redbull is over-rated - Monster is my drug i take daily - always get the speech, even from my wife. Monster Assault FTW

Just tried the new Rossi edition. Can't say I like the lemon flavour. WIFE LOVES IT THOUGH. I love the can :o

I drink them like water too, I need my caffeine fix and they taste great. Khaos is also my favourite :D tho i begin missing the Blue and Green ones occasionally and drink those.

They're not bad at all. I am surrounded by people that tell me that they're bad, but looking at the ingredients it's n different to what they drink in their cokes, their coffees, their fruit juices, etc.

The caffeine is less than a serious cup of coffee.

P.S: The Ripper juice, the yellow one gives me serious heart burn, it's waaaay too sweet

Monster makes me super grumpy, had a few friends agree, redbull does not.

ironically Monster makes me happy. i'm fine throughout the day and generally friendly, but that buzz it gives me seems to give me just enough energy to deal with irritation and negativity.

anyone who has attended a paintball session with me can vouch for this :p
