"After 15 months of consultation, the Independent Communications Authority of SA (Icasa) has ruled that the SABC’s television channels – SABC 1 and SABC 2 – must use less English and more African languages. SABC 1 and SABC 2 must broadcast 32% of their programme material in official languages other than English."

Sure i am gonna be called racist but how come there are so few (if any ) white faces on the news on channel 3 ?

Just asking so please dont make a big thing and get your panties in a knot!!

Two words: Affirmative Action.

Plus SABC and the ANC are in cohoots with each other and the ANC wants a the station to be "Africanised".
 
so if i am white (last time i looked i am ) and born in SA then what am i ? not african?
 
I find that there are so few programmes on SABC 1 and 2 that are actually watchable as it is. I wish we could go back to having channels according to language. Like TV1 - Xhosa/Zulu, etc. TV2 - Afrikaans. TV3 - English. I think this way (most) everyone would be happy.

TV sucks !

I thought you all realised that simple truth already ?

For every 30 minutes of good TV you receive, you pay for by watching 10 hours of **** TV.

How about you throw your TV sets out and go and do something more interesting instead, like getting drunk, listening to music, building something or having wild sex - if you can do all at once, you get a "get out of **** free" pass

All the decent TV you can get on DVD anyway, so what's stopping you ?

Throw away your television !

so it was the anc that told haitans, jamaicans, peopel in the rest of africa and african americans that african means black?? Yeah i don't think so. African to the majority of the world means black liek european to the majority means white. you dont have to liek it but dont blame the anc and call them race obsessed when they take the reigns after apartheid, Oh i'm sorry what else were they supposed to concentrate on after black opression, the litter problem??

It's almost like people (white people, yes I said it) are looking for reasons to blame anythign on the ANC, well white rule of this country wasnt any better, you know what with no democracy and mass opression and all. I don't care who rules this rock but blaming the anc for people all over th world considering black people african... thats a new one

Oh really ???.

Do you know of a chap by the name of Patrick Duncan ???.

He was a WHITE man who became a PAC executive commitee member in 1958 after it was banned.

Robert Sobukwe of the PAC said the following about being an African

"everybody who owes his loyalty to Africa and is prepared to accept the democratic rule of an African majority being regarded as an African"
 
The Belgian system is the best example of what to do in a multi-cultural setting.

Their equivalent of ICASA is split into pieces for each cultural grouping. Radio and TV signals are divided amongst them and then each cultural grouping has control of their own TV and Radio licensing and so forth.

The Dutch speaking Belgians for instance don't have to consult with the French speaking population about how much Dutch needs to be on TV and vice versa. There are no quotas as the quotas are inherently programmed into the allocation of the "airspace".

Others that don’t understand them should do the same here because until it does there will be an unintended undermining of different cultures.

A good example would be a well-known Gauteng bi-lingual station. The station is owned and run by people who only understand one of the two languages the station is licensed to broadcast in and for. Because of this situation there are very little if any music in the other language and presenters are contracted that don’t fully understand the language not to mention speak it.

The local content requirements of ICASA do not extend to language specific quotas, which means that mostly English South African music gets aired.

It is terrible for other languages, which has effectively been disconnected from those who speak them by means of a lack of media ownership.
