More ANC RETARDED name changes

BTW...I always thought that East London already had a Xhosa name, i.e. eMonti. Where does this new one come from now?

You are right, it is known is eMonti. Gompo is the name of the massive informal settlement next to East London (I think it used to be called Duncan Village). Nahoon, another name they want to change, was already named after a local Xhosa chief. lol.

These guys are sneaky bastards, the other day I was watching the weather report and noticed that Nelspruit had become mBombela or something like that and I dont ever recall anything about that in the media etc. In Durban as well, besides the controversal changes they have also secretly 'corrected' the spelling in some of the more ethnic names ie Umchlanga, toti etc.

Witbank has been called emalahleni - meaning place of coal, now how is that historically accurate?
Warmbad is renamed to Bela Bela - meaning 'boil boil',
Nelspruit to Mbombela meaning "place where people comes together". (If I recall)

Now this is good and all, but how exactly do they justify that they are historically accurate. In pretoria they renamed kerkstraat to churchstreet and fonteinweg to fountain road, it is seriously a waste of money as we all still use the old name in any case.

Money can be better spent on safe havens for street children & ensuring they get an education to reduce the number of starving & illiterate people in our country.

The first round of public hearings into name changes in Buffalo City saw residents object to the proposal, calling instead for service delivery and housing.

glad to see the people are seeing through this name change BS.

it is easier to buy votes by playing on people's emotion rather than delivering services

that's what they think. I think it would be easier to offer those services than to do the changes.

Oh wait I forgot. they don't know the meaning of the words service delivery.

The ANC & it's leaders should be focusing on creating new places & names & stop just trying to rename what they never built!

That is the problem we will have forever that is Africa Mentality lets take & change & that will then become ours!!!

Rather build new & better that way people will respect what you are doing!

Bah quit your whining. At least they're only changing the roads named after people. In Durban, they took out logical non-political names like Point & Riverside.

They have though but it's not nearly as newsworthy and upsetting to the people buying the newspaper.

and renamed them to south african heroes like che guevara

What I don't get is why the names have to be changed. If English / Afrikaans are not recognized by the constitution I'd say fine, but they are.

We refer to places such as Venice, Munich, etc. whereas the locals call it Venizia, München, etc. Most places in the world have local AND English/other language names. Add an ethnic name to the place, don't remove it's English Afrikaans name. Better yet, build NEW places and give them the desired names. Oh wait, I forgot, it's easier to just rebrand and claim it as your own. C*nts.

Look at the economics of this .. all signboards will have to change, as well as national & international maps. All GPS software must be updated, local & international business cards & letterheads, even websites will need adjustment etc.

Do they actually care who's gonna foot the bill for all this? Yes they will .. in exactly the same way that ministers bought hugely expensive luxury vehicles during the worst recession the last century.

I agree with the residents, change the bloody names once you have your service delivery sorted out.

Lol, Yasir Arafat as well :D

Don't worry, I'm sure some even bigger arseholes will come and deface the new road signs causing frustration when trying to find a road.

Yeah what they did in Durban was pretty ****ed up. Especially ironically naming a street after Mahatma Gandhi, a very big racist. Good going guys, really helping the pooh-a as you always say.

yeah, naming roads after Fidel Castro and Zonko isn't exactly in the best political correct sense either.

i guess there's one good thing about bob still being alive...
we can't have any streets named after him. yet.

Don't be so sure, there are probably hundreds of Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki streets all around the country, and they're still alive. Although now that Mbeki has fallen out of favour with the honorabull struggle comrades, they'll probably want to change those again. Mmmm, maybe there's some room for Robert Mugabe Drives, or Nicolae Ceauşescu Boulevards or Josef Stalin Avenues after all... Ooh, or how about Pol Pot Parkway, or Kim Jong-il Krescent

Thats the thing, as soon as someone else comes into power, the names will change again.
