More ANC RETARDED name changes

They changed Mafiking to Mafikeng, then MMabato and not it might be Mahakeng from now on..... the highway is still called the N4 witbank although it leads to emalahleni.

Well yes and Mesina to Musina... One ****ing letter.. Wonder what that cost? Must have been the most expensive letter ever.

Maybe you should get with the program and learn how to pronounce them. Stop fighting change and embrace it.

I drive through Hendrik Verwoerd street almost every day and the name makes my stomach turn.

pft, at least I know Hendrik Verwoerd was a living person, I can't say the same for these ANC propagated made up names and 'heroes' who quite frankly no one knew off.

Lets take our moto for example, who the hell starts a sentence with an exclamation mark? (and as far as I now it is suppose to mean a similar thing as 'eendracht maak macht)

is there suppose to be a different way to pronounce it?

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. I don't really care about trading what are mostly *** Afrikaans and English names for *** names of another language.

e.g.

Nelspruit vs Mbombela
Pietersburg vs Polokwane

Nothing of value was lost.

I just wish they would get rid of all the <insert European name here> East/Wests.

Your intellect amazes me. :o

Because you don't know who someone was, "no one" knows? Also have you ever read anything in Spanish? Notice the upside down question marks.

please provide me with evidence than that chief Tswhane was something more than a person who pissed on a tree or that Witbank's coal mines were fully utilized before colonial rule hence the name 'place of coal' is fitting ?:)

from wiki

shwane [tsʰwane] is the Setswana name of the Apies River, which flows throw the city. The origin of the name of the river is unclear. It may mean "place (-e) of the black cow (tshwana)", from ceremonies where a black cow was sprinkled with water from the river to end a drought.[13] Another claim is that it was named after Tshwane, son of Chief Mushi, and Ndebele leader who settled near the Apies River about a century before the arrival of the Voortrekkers in the early 19th century.[13] However, some Ndebele kings claim to have never heard of a chief named "Tshwane".[14]
It sounds to me like fabricated facts :)

Maybe it is named after Gnr, Tswanepoel.

Malema: "All this allegations are incorrect. Ignore what you hear in the news. If you vote for ANC now, you get a free house."

Its like mafeking.. i can understand that the "king" part made more sense to brittish... so later on the name was corrected to mafikeng
... and then they corrected the spelling again to mahikeng
I hope they got it right this time

Its problably a response to the newspapers calling mafikeng the dirtiest town in SA.
So they can just go "mafikeng... where?"

What I dont understand is why are they changing the spelling. Because originally they had no written language, so what the hell is the difference between Umlhanga and eMlhanga. As far as I am aware the 'U' was put there for us whiteys to pronouce it correctly, because other wise we would say eeeemlhanga when you are not supposed to pronounce the 'e'.

The best part is that different languages spell names differently in any case eg.

London is spelt Londen in Afrikaans. China spelt Sjina.. eerlikwaar its plain stupid.

Don't be so sure, there are probably hundreds of Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki streets all around the country, and they're still alive. Although now that Mbeki has fallen out of favour with the honorabull struggle comrades, they'll probably want to change those again. Mmmm, maybe there's some room for Robert Mugabe Drives, or Nicolae Ceauşescu Boulevards or Josef Stalin Avenues after all... Ooh, or how about Pol Pot Parkway, or Kim Jong-il Krescent

In Mamelodi (I've been driving around there quite a bit lately there is a Malema Drive - it's just off the M8 Tsamaya Avenue) if anyone wants to check it out.

Let them change the names if the majority of the public wants the name changed to the generic 'South African' names. I don't understand why people forget that the Government is suppose to serve the masses, if this is what most people want, let it happen. Simple.
