More ANC RETARDED name changes

So they want to play a British name with an imperialist Roman name? :S

You can't really apply normal logic to these guys like PAC, ANC etc. When you start to do that you've already failed. Try to think in the most illogical, backwards way possible, then you might get a glimpse of why they are changing all these names.

ANC propaganda is failing dismally to re-create History. Its rather illogical to debate that what has happened can't be change, good or bad. The evil's of apartheid cant be put right by BEE or changing street names. Its apartheid still the same, creating divide along racial lines, rich elitest black vs a struggling middle class.

No, their thinking is logical and rational, but its only about ego, power, and money.

Ie,

I want to change those names because I have the POWER, and leaving the ANC's, and therefore my, stamp upon it makes my EGO feel good. And I dont care about spending public money.

how much money is wasted?

Show that amount to the guys that has food poisoning and tell them where their food money went to.

And show them how many weeks/months they could have been fed on that money alone.

i just stopped giving squat about south african history cos this sh*t changes when the cabinet changes. currently anc has the monetary power and are somehow trying to stuff it up by using it on useless and senseless stuff, personally if were in power and have enriched myself from tax funds or tenders id probably do the same sh*t...too bad we're all in the receiving end now....eish

+100

The idiots still do not get it.

Start doing the big stuff. When everybody has homes and schools and hospitals....and and and. Then change the names of streets. People will then celibrate the acievements that brought them there. Now the stand in Nelson Mandela road in ruins and eating vrot food.

please provide me with evidence than that chief Tswhane was something more than a person who pissed on a tree or that Witbank's coal mines were fully utilized before colonial rule hence the name 'place of coal' is fitting ?:)

from wiki

It sounds to me like fabricated facts :)

Maybe it is named after Gnr, Tswanepoel.

Firstly, wiki is nowhere near a reliable source. Secondly, your post was about the fact that YOU didn't know who these people were. I pointed out that someone can be importent without you knowing. In the same vein I pointed out how other languages do in fact use punctuation differently to English.

Witbank has been called emalahleni - meaning place of coal, now how is that historically accurate?
...

Now this is good and all, but how exactly do they justify that they are historically accurate. In pretoria they renamed kerkstraat to churchstreet and fonteinweg to fountain road, it is seriously a waste of money as we all still use the old name in any case.

Let's take New York (USA), what where they thinking it isn't even close to York. :p

Sorry that is just plain BS. Most of the time articles on wiki are backed up by sources with the links provided. If a link to a claim is not provided the article will have [citation needed] in the article.

But in this case the article on wiki does provide sources.

Tshwane [tsʰwane] is the Setswana name of the Apies River, which flows throw the city. The origin of the name of the river is unclear. It may mean "place (-e) of the black cow (tshwana)", from ceremonies where a black cow was sprinkled with water from the river to end a drought.[13] Another claim is that it was named after Tshwane, son of Chief Mushi, and Ndebele leader who settled near the Apies River about a century before the arrival of the Voortrekkers in the early 19th century.[13] However, some Ndebele kings claim to have never heard of a chief named "Tshwane".[14]

Sorry, but it really irks me when people are backed into a corner and then their only response "wiki is not reliable".

lmfao, my thoughts exactly...

At least the people in the squatter camps have more brains than the ANC:

The first round of public hearings into name changes in Buffalo City saw residents object to the proposal, calling instead for service delivery and housing.
Emotions ran high as an estimated 200 residents at Gompo Hall in Duncan Village accused government of not getting their priorities right.
Concerned residents said government’s efforts should be doubled on service delivery and alleviating poverty instead.
This call was highest among communities from informal settlements.
Squatter camp resident Mbulelo Kote, from Readymix near Cambridge, said he only attended because he thought the meeting was about housing.
“What will a name change do for me now while I live in a squatter camp?” he asked. “We live in squalor and are called for such things,” he said.

Maybe one of these guys should be the Mayor instead.

My problem is that wiki doesn't require it's content to be correct, only verifiable. You can simply link to a source which backs the way in which you chose to write an article. Thus some articles are instates of conflict. Not every uncited fact has a tag. Plus, as Fudzy pointed out, even basic typos make it into this encyclopedia, because anyone can edit it. Wiki is a nice project, but not a good source of information.

Anyway, name changes happen, they might not be what's best, but they happen all over the place. As I pointed out with New York. St Petersburg in Russia has been through many name changes, India is still going through this process.
