More HD PVR software updates

Glad I'm waiting to upgrade. Most of the bugs better be sorted by the time I upgrade to HD

Anyone know how to do the software upgrade. I've went into DSD upgrade but it always tells me to select a time to upgrade and when the time comes it never does. Also the article mentions "forced" upgrade. However my PVR is exactly how it was when I got it.

Here is the procedure (quoted from Multichoice email sent out to customers):

Dear HD PVR Owner

MultiChoice would like to thank you for purchasing our HD PVR decoder.

When we launched the HD PVR in August 2008, we were very keen to make the new HD PVR decoder available to our customers in time to enjoy the fantastic sporting spectacle of the Beijing Olympics in High Definition.

Since then, we have been hard at work and are pleased to confirm that new software, which increases the stability and the overall performance of the HD PVR, was released early this morning.

The new software will address:
• Random loss of all recordings
• Problems when using the standby option
• Channel numbers being incorrectly allocated
• Performance of fast forward / rewind
• Random loading of SuperSport Active
• General stability issues
To check that your HD PVR has the latest software, please follow the steps below:
• While watching a video channel, press MENU to load the Decoder Menu
• Select Information Central
• Select Hardware Status
• You are now on the DSD Status screen
• Take note of the value on the 6th line (Appl SW). The latest version as at 16 October is 1.14.0.84.
• Press the RIGHT arrow twice to go to Loader Status
• Take note of the value on the 3rd line (Load Ver/Var). The latest version as at 16 October is 7/2.
If your HD PVR does not have the latest software, you can download it, please follow the steps below:
• While watching a video channel, press MENU to load the Decoder Menu
• Select Advanced Options
• Enter 9949
• Select DSD Upgrade
• Wait for the red button to appear and then press red to start the software download
• Do not interrupt the download process and wait for normal audio and video to resume
Great new features will continue to be added to your HD PVR and from the month of December, you will be able to link your HD PVR decoder with either a 1110 or SD PVR decoder.

The MultiChoice team would like to thank you for your support of our new product and your patience shown during its launch period. We are confident that the new software will enhance your viewing experience.

Regards

The MultiChoice HD PVR Team

Hey Dude

I had the same problem. Apparently its due to a load problem. Too many decoders requesting the download and not enough "slots" available for download". Having said that I finally managed to upgrade my Decoder last night. All I can say is just to keep on trying. It will allow you to download at some point.

Good Luck..

Erm, this makes no sense at all - the decoder does not "request" the software from Multichoice. There is only one way communication. Your PVR listens to traffic being broadcast.

There are ways of "forcing" the download, even if you do not have the red button showing on your DSD upgrade screen. I recommend visiting the HD-PVR forums, specifically the thread at http://www.dstv.com/Gysmm/Forum/threadView.aspx?sid=43564&or=asc&strSearch=&Id=132

Good luck

Howzit.

A bit off topic question.

How does one reset the device to factory defaults?
And also will it download upgrades if you have only a single LNB and cable entering the decoder.

If not what can i do?

I also struggled, and finally got it to download last night ... by doing this sequence (as I wrote on the DSTV forum) as per my post at:

RE: Still can't upgrade?

I have finally cracked the upgrade to the new software version!

Something about MCA itv''s post at 17h03 on 17-10-2008 kept niggling my one active brain cell, but I couldn''t lay my finger on it.

I printed out that post and when at home last night (and after trying the upgrade several more times - unsuccessfully), I proceeded as follows (and as per MCA itv''s post re: "Stuck on scan or no signal after download")..... Up to then I hadn''t taken much notice of that post as I had previously not been able to do a download, and the topic "stuck, or no signal after download" therefore didn''t apply to my situation.

Here''s what I did (and found) ...

I have the 4-cable installation, i.e. a dual LNB, into a 2/4 multiswitch, and 4 cables into the back of the HDPVR.

On the remote, I pressed "menu", selected "advanced options", entered 9949, and selected "Network Setup" >> "Home Network".

The set up was as follows:

1) Network = DStv IS7
2) LNB Power = 18V !!! WHOA .....

According the MCA itv''s post on this the LNB Power should be set to "Controlled", not "18V", so I changed it to "Controlled", exited the set up, and tried a DSD Upgrade ... HALLELUJA ....

It finally worked! Took about 20 minutes to effect the upgrade, and all seems OK now.

I have no idea why the LNB Power was set to "18V" instead of "Controlled" ... perhaps it was the installer I used, or perhaps it was set to that ex-retailer? I don''t know, but I had not changed it and there is no one else in my home that could have changed it.

The first improvement I noticed after the successful upgrade was that the decoder now resumes from "standby" successfully. This was one of my biggest gripes.

Note that the above applies if you have a dual LNB set-up, with 2 coax cables into a 2 - 4 multiswitch, and 4 coax cables from the multiswitch to the input tuners 1, 2, 3, 4 at the rear of the HD PVR.

If you have the SATcr LNB set-up, the settings in "Home Network" are different ... these are also listed on the DSTV forum.

Ok, so my dashboard shows:
(Appl SW) = 1.14.0.84.
(Load Ver/Var) = 7/2.

From the above posts these are the latest update. But honestly I don't see a single difference from the last version. Text from the info panel is still cut off and still can't when the dates of when the movies where released. It is still slow and takes a while to load too. Very disappointed.

Hi guys,

Just a quick one, i noticed that my resolution has changed since the update. it was always 1280*720, but now its only 720*576.

Anyone else experiencing this? :confused::confused:
