More Pet Food Problems

While I think each company will have their own researchers, nutritionists and vets doing tests and what not to come up with a good product, I prefer to stick with one recommended by my vet.

We originally moved Fayth from a supermarket brand, on to Vets Choice a couple years ago and at the time did a few calculations, to compare the price between the products. Interestingly enough, per feeding, Vets Choice worked out to about R0.50 cheaper than that brand we normally bought at the supermarket. Even though it looks like you're paying more, you're feeding your dog less, so it balances out.

While I don't want to influence your choice, have a look at the products you're comparing and work out how much it costs per helping. You may be surprised at the results.

Will do. Also trying to read as much as possibe on the BARF diet (thanks to Freshy) - we will settle down soon enough I believe :) Will not be able to go back to supermarket brands again.
 
Personally I hope this whole industry undergoes a major upheaval and i dont wish anything good on the firms who have been selling poison without them themselves having done sample tests with EVERY batch of raw materials they receive... this should be standard no?
 
As they said on Carte Blanche, to run tests on everything, for every known toxin, would send the price of pet food sky high. From my understanding (been having e-mail conversations with a couple people as well), melamine was not originally tested for because it is not normally associated with food products.

I agree that they need to have a second look at procedures and some suppliers, but they are doing their best to ensure that this does does not happen again. The Pet Food Industry is a huge business and they sure as hell don't want to go bankrupt.
 
Problem is... how can you endorse something and vouch for its content (ingredients wise and nutritional value) when you dont manufacture the ingredients and dont test them when received from the supplier?
 
The FDA are definitely trying to root out the cause of the problem ...

This is the company which saw many brands of dog food being recalled in the US.
 
Our cats aren't eating the latest Royal Canin we bought them :eek:

It's happened before and we replaced the packet and they started eating again. But now with all the problems I'm feeling a tad concerned about it. :(
 
Ha ha, shame man. Poor pets. These freaking Chinese are another story. Can you imagine what we are eating for eg. from Woolworths? That food does not taste real to me, it is so clinical. Tastes like chemicals.
 
My 2 cats get Whiskas and my Jack Russel and Daschund get Alpo.

They all seem happy so far. The dogs get rice as well, they normally eat better than I do;)
 
As mentioned before, TJ is eating a mix of Hills mini pellets for Adults and Husky Home-style range ... (though he tends to pick out the Husky before eating the pellets, silly mutt!) ... I'm also supplementing that with mirracote from the vet. It's a vitamin supplement.
 
Mine are back on Vets choice. Its back on the shelves. They dont really like anything else. As much as it pains me to support Vets Choice again I feel that all these commercial dog foods run the same risk, also im sure Vets Choice will not be taking any chances again....(I hope)
